In What ways does your media project use,

develop or challenge forms and conventions of

real media products?

Page 4: Powerpoint presentation

Our media product ‘Changes’ is very similar to the conventional teen drama ‘Thirteen’.

The dissolves helped create our montage sequence of a memory of two girls. which is all shown as a flash back. This is shown in the video clip...

In the movie ‘thirteen’ it also shows a montage sequence of two girls and then cross cuts back in time.

Music

We chose to use another artists music for our movie product ‘Changes’. We

used music from Kate Nash ‘Nicest thing’.This particular song had soft lyrics

and mellow instruments. The aim was for the audience to feel the seriousness

of the movie before it had even started, this would grab the audiences attention

and they’d automatically think into the situation of what was on the screen and

sympathize towards our characters.

Kate Nash ‘Nicest Thing’ music we used.

6

Lyrical music is very common in teen dramas such as ‘

Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen’ the music used in the

opening titles for this movie gives the audience the idea that the

movie is very up beat and girly.

MUSIC

Page 7: Powerpoint presentation

The ‘Bully’ and ‘Thirteen’.

Both these movies are similar to our media product ‘Changes’ because they

are all rude reminders of just how easy things can spiral out of control if you

get involved with the wrong crowd and put yourself in such a precarious

situation…

Changes

‘Thirteen’ and our movie ‘Changes’ both have a main character who change in

personalities from good to bad.

CASTOur movie is based on serious addictions and

insecurities. Therefore we wanted our

characters to be suitable for the parts and

taken seriously. Even though our cast is very

female dominated we didn’t want our

characters to be the typical girly girls. As not

only will the girls be taken more seriously but

would encourage more females and males to

watch it as they wouldn’t be watching the

typically ‘dumb blonde’.

The type of characters we based our cast on

were the cast in the hit TV series Skins.

Effy from Skins

Page 10: Powerpoint presentation

Thirteen was shot on a small camera- grey dull background and very documentary style.

We also used a small camera. We followed the same idea of natural colors and a natural documentary form…by using handheld camera for the for tilt upwards shot.

We used DVD cameras

How does your media product represent particular

social groups?

Page 12: Powerpoint presentation

COSTUME- For our main character she has two different styles of costume, both costumes had to be very different to show different personality traits. ‘Based on rebellious social working class teenagers’

MAKE UP - Our main character in the first shot has a lot of makeup on. Girls who are feeling insecure in themselves who feel they must shield themselves will wear a lot of makeup.

CAST- The teenage girls represent teenage relationships and bonds between best friends. Our main character shown in the beginning was based on an American Hit series actress called Adrianna who got caught in the wrong crowd and fell into a trap of drugs and alcohol.

What kind of media institution might distribute your

media product and why??

Page 14: Powerpoint presentation

Our Media Product- No familiar cast- low budget Film- camera DV…none of the major institutions would distribute our media product…

Although our film is similar to the movie ‘Thirteen’ one major institution which may want to distribute our movie could be 20th

Century Fox…

Film 4 distributes a lot of independent movies- this would be a good one as it’s a very well known British distributor.

Independent cinemas.

Page 15: Powerpoint presentation

15

Pathe would distribute our film ‘Changes’ as it is an

independent film distributor.

Page 16: Powerpoint presentation

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Page 17: Powerpoint presentation

BBFC

It is very important to know

the certification of your

movie!

WHO IS YOUR AUDIENCE?

Page 18: Powerpoint presentation

Our movie would

classify as an 18.

Due to the use of drugs

within the first two

minutes.

The audience for our media product would be between the ages of 16-24…

The same audiences from the Larry Clark films such as The Bully, Kids, Another day in paradise. None of these movies have familiar casts and they all share moments of sex, alcohol and drug abuse.

AUDIENCECERTIFICATION

Page 19: Powerpoint presentation

What have you learnt about technologies from the

process of constructing this product?

Page 20: Powerpoint presentation

Technologies we used; Final Cut Pro, Youtube, Youtube converter, Garage Band, Facebook.

software to

make your

own music.

we converted

our music from

Youtube.As well

as uploading

our movies onto

it and

reasearchin-g

sequences.

this is were we

converted our

music onto.

we used facebook

to alert people to

visit youtube and

How did you attract/address your audience?

Page 22: Powerpoint presentation

in order to attract and address the target audience it was important to find out all the demographics.

ATTRACTING

THE

AUDIENCE

Having characters with

an edgier personality

and that come across

mysterious attracts a

wider audience and

makes them wonder

what will happen to the

characters.

We felt it was partly

important

to have an attractive

cast as it would

encourage more

males to watch our

film.

FEEDBACK

FACEBOOK/YOUTUBE/BLOGSPOT- we uploaded our media products onto these online websites which gave other people the ability to watch it and comment on it.

When we first put our feature film onto these websites each of the different shot sizes were much longer.. someone pointed our how we should shorten each shot.

Someone also commented on how it would be much clearer if rather then faded onto black we should fade into white and white would give them impression of flashback more.

Page 24: Powerpoint presentation

Finding our Target audience… On the left hand side there is a

bar chart..

This bar chat verifies the type of audience we have attracted..

As thought we would attract more girls then boys..

We chose one specific age gap.. This shows how teenagers and young adults would be interested in watching the rest of our movie..

60 percent of boys would.

98 percent of girls would.

FINDING OUR AUDIENCE

looking back at your preliminary task what do you feel

you have learnt in the progression from it to full

product?

Page 26: Powerpoint presentation

26

From our preliminary task to our final full product, We both have a greater awareness on shot sizes, camera movement and technologies.

During filming we were more confident with the certain shots we were using as we understood them more.

During our preliminary task we never used our Blogs that much and since then to our final product we both are more
