• Important point – pulse length as close to 430 ns.
• Justification: “In the PS the pulse that is impacted onto the AD-Target has a length of ~430 ns. This pulse length is really relevant for the dynamic response of the target as it particularly excites a radial mode.”

• = 4 mm.
• Pulse period = 22.8 s or
26.4 s (use HRM short
cycle).
• Number of bunches per
pulse not important.

2018 Facility Updates – HRM Optics
• Optics are currently being updated.
• Optics were calculated previously for beam radii of σ = 0.1 – 2 mm.
• At each focal point conditions must satisfy limitations at vacuum window and beam dump window (σ = 0.5 mm). Focal point 2 (table B)
can only have σ < 0.5 mm to satisfy conditions.
• New optics currently under development (σ = 4 mm).

HRM facility layout and access
30/04/2018
• Access to HiRadMat• Only without extraction to TCC6 (=TI2 and HRM)
• SPS can continue cycling.
• Since 2014: TT61 is used for placing DAQ equipment only 10 m from the impact centre
• Access coordinated with BE/OP, particularly in view of LHC operation• Often stand-by for access during several days
• Great flexibility by RP and TRANSPORT (HE) is highly appreciated.
F.Harden
Access to V0-V7Muon pits of former WANF
• Exposed to muon beam in forward direction of HiRadMat target area
• Access to be restricted upon RP request
• Access to VO needed about twice a year for intervention by CV
• Skipping installation of full-fletched access control system (SPS)
• Padlocks with manual veto system like in the North Area• Agreed by EN, BE and RP (EDMS 1578411)
• Installed by BE/ICS
• Manual veto held by EN/EA
• Installation completed, operational from 2016
