• ITS: application of ICT in transport

• C-ITS:

a subset of the overall ITS that communicates and shares information

between ITS stations to give advice or facilitate actions with the

objective of improving safety, sustainability, efficiency and comfort

beyond the scope of stand-alone systems.

• ITS services: combined use of ITS technologies in order to fulfil user

requirements related to a transport mode (or integration of more than

one transport mode) on a certain market.

• Categorisation needs a market driven approach in order to be

alligned with NEWBITS purposes

• Based on the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) a market

type segmentation was chosen:

• Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS)

• Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS)

• Advanced Transportation Pricing System (ATPS)

• Advanced Public Transportation System (APTS)

• Cooperative vehicle system (CVS)

Categorisation of ITS services

WP2: Mapping of C-ITS context 908.08.2017

• Long list of criteria was developed based on literature review

• Based on AHP these criteria were ranked based on theirrelevance for NEWBITS purposes

• Top 5:

• Primary benefits

• Type of stakeholders

• Innovation level

• ITS key-enabling technology

• Transferability

• Selection of 4 criteria: primary benefit, innovation level, ITS technology and market segment

Categorisation approach

• Assessment of barriers and enablers

• Identify main barriers and enablers for the deployment of ITS services.

• Assess the relevance of the barriers and enablers for the different market segments and types of services.

• Explore the impact of external factors (macro-trends) of future relevance of barriers and enablers

• Assessment of KPIs

• Identify main KPIs used for ITS services

• Assess the relevance/usage of KPIs for the different market segments and types of services

• Assess the main barriers for applying the KPIs.

• Increased political commitment:

• due to increased attention sustainable transport, urbanisation,

increase multimodal transport

• More attractive business models:

• due to urbanisation, ageing population

• Improved infrastructure:

• due to emerging technologies (e.g. 5G)

• More user-acceptance

the service

• No clear distinction in benefit KPIs per market segment or

service type can be identified.
