PowerPoint Publishing
Make Your PowerPoint
Like the Pros.By Julie PhelpseMINTS Cluster Instructional Specialist-SW
PowerPoint presentations are similar to books.
They are both created by authors of all ages.
They go through a process to be created.
They both help communicate an idea. They are both forms of published work.
Published presentations should be…
appealing to look at, readable and easy to see, created for a certain audience, a final copy without mistakes, presented in your best speaking voice with
good eye contact.

aper plan before PowerPointPutting your information on paper first will save you time.
Lots of time can be wasted choosing different fonts, backgrounds, templates, animations, sounds, colors, shapes, word art, clip art, and transitions. Keep it simple.
nformation before animationThe most important part of your presentation is your information.
Put the information in your PowerPoint first. Animation is last.

se basic backgrounds.Distracting backgrounds make the page difficult to read.
This black text doesn’t show up well on the dark background. The colors in the background do not match the border on the left. This is an ugly page. It does not look like it was created by a professional.
What color is the background on the pages of most books?
emember to use your own words.Choose the most important information. Don’t copy and
paste other peoples’ words.
asy on the clip art.Too much clip art also distracts from your information.
ounds should supplement.Too many different sounds in your animation
and transitions can be distracting.
There are many neat sounds
in PowerPoint, but
the sounds should supplement or
add to your presentation.
Choose one sound, and
stick with it.
Sound should be consistent
like your colors, fonts, and animation.
When you create a PowerPoint keep the
word “Pictures” in mind.
