1Determine your ceiling support system. To understand your truss direction, spacing orplacement, you may need to enter your attic. You may also need to consult your builder or alicensed contractor. As an additional resource, refer to Appendix I. Tip: The direction of yourceiling outlets will indicate the direction of your trusses, just as the location of your garage doorsupport will indicate the location and spacing of your trusses.

2Determine what section of the garage will house your new Bike Lift. Make sure there are noobstructions within the designated space (i.e., lights, attic door, sprinklers, etc.). If you havecabinets in your garage, make sure there is adequate clearance for doors to open.

You may secure your Mounting Track into a

single truss by inserting the lag bolts

through the center holes.

You may secure your Mounting Track into two

separate trusses: from the center of the mounting

track measure approximately 1 ¼” in

each direction to pinpoint the appropriate drilling

locations.

Four lag screws secure each mounting track into

two trusses

There are two methods to install the mounting tracks. Determine which is needed for your placement before

proceeding.

3AWhen installing down the center of the Mounting Track: find the center of the truss (for more indepth information please see Appendix III), drill a pilot hole, secure the Mounting Track with oneLag Screw firmly (Do not over tighten). Square the Mounting track by measuring from a fixedpoint to your first Lag Screw, carry that measurement to your next Lag Screw evenly and securelytighten both.

If your truss spacing is 24” center to center, you will

attach your Mounting Tracks 24” apart.

When installing down the center of a truss:

If your truss spacing is 16” center to center, you will attach your Mounting Tracks to two trusses measuring 32”

apart (skipping the center truss).

Measure from the center of the holein the backstop to the floor. Thismeasurement will be used todetermine the overall length of theswing-arm tubes. The full swing-armconsists of the upper, connector, andlower swing-arm tubes.

6 To assemble the Swing-Arm: slide the connector tube into the Upper Swing-arm tube and slidethe Lower Swing-arm tube onto the connector tube. Using your measurement from theprevious page: lay your tape measure from the hole on the Upper Swing-arm tube along the sideof the tubes and adjust until you are 1” to 3” less than your measurement (this will ensure whenthe arm swings down it will have a gap from the floor).

15

For maximum extension, the connector tube should have 6 holes inside each of the upper and lowerswing-arm tubes – this should never be exceeded.

11 ContinuedThe “X” from the previous step is representing the pick location of the lift. The center of the spool on the motor is where this should be placed relative to the “X”. Below are measurements of the “X” in relationship to the holes on the motor case.

This step is continued on the next page, refer back to the measurements below, if necessary.

*Please note that your motor will most likely not be installed in the center of the mounting tracks, they need to be installed for your particular application.

11 ContinuedTo determine our drill location we will find the closest trussrelative to our “X”.

In this example we will install our motor with the trussesrunning left to right. Our trusses are 24” on center. From our“X” on the ceiling we would measure 1” to the left, to get thecenter of our mounting track. We would then drill our pilot holein the center of the truss 1” left of the “X”.

From that drill location you would measure back to your “X” todetermine how to mount your tracks to the motor, ensuringproper alignment and location.

23

Tip: For ease of install, it is recommended to have 2 people, one to hold the motor and one to lag the mounting tracks to the ceiling.

12 To determine the location of the rubberized hooks that will be holding the bike frame, pick 2 locations on the frame that best support your particular bike. These 2 points will be used to hold the bikes and may be straight, or slanted , as shown in the image below. (Continued on next page).

12 Continued The easiest method is to determine what bicycle will go on the bottom. From the floor measure to the locations you want your hooks, carry that measurement to the bike lift. You will want to know the bike lift width, as it will help locate your hook placement. When installing the support tubes, add an additional 1-3 inches to keep your tires from resting on the ground. The upper bike is the same method, you will need measure from the floor to the highest point on the lower bike. This measurement will be added to the floor to hook measurement.

There are 4 standard type of roof structures:

1. Living Space above the garage area. 2. Flat roofs.

3. “Hip” / Truss roofs. 4. Traditional “Gable” roofs.

It is important to identify the type of roof structure you have, to start the process of installation.

Once you identify the type of roof structure you have, you can understand the type of

construction your have in your ceiling.

We will attempt to demonstrate the type of ceiling or truss systems but these types may vary. If

you have any questions on the type of roof structure you have, we recommend contacting your

builder, viewing your ceiling trusses via your attic access or contacting a qualified representative

to help you.

Appendix III –Proper Mounting

• It is recommended to use a stud finder and physically inspect your crawl space to

locate your truss direction. You can also make note of any electrical, plumbing or

gas lines that may be around your truss system.

• Always install the lag screws directly into the center of a truss. With appropriate

installation, you should never encounter utility lines.

• We recommend probing to find the edges of your truss. This is the most reliable

method of finding the center of your truss and ensures proper installation of the

lag screws.

• Because our lag screws are designed to be contained inside of solid wood

trusses, they are 3” in length. If you find that you have pre-fabricated wood

trusses such as TGI’s, we recommend that you slowly tighten your lag screws

into the mounting track. Some pre-fabricated trusses are thin, and your lag

screws may penetrate the back side.

• If you cannot view your trusses due to a living space being above your garage,

you can purchase 2 ½” steel lag screws to replace the 3” lag screws that are

provided in your hardware kit.

• In every situation, it is best to consult with your builder or a professional to help

with your project.
