The PV45 GPU improves on the successful PV40 GPU with

increased power output as well as many additional features. In

particular, the use of a 12-pulse rectifier provides improved input

harmonics and power factor without compromising robustness and

reliability.

Specifically designed for hangar use, with optional plinth for fixed

indoor or outdoor installation. With a power rating of 45kVA, the

PV45 is targeted at the small to medium sized aircraft.

As a manufacturer and exclusive provider of ground power at major

air shows, Powervamp’s engineers have been uniquely placed to

operate the company’s converters on all the world’s latest

generation aircraft, gaining unrivalled data and experience while

working alongside the airframe manufacturers’ test and field

Powervamp’s third generation PV90 GPU meets the specific

demands of modern aircraft by delivering a genuine 90kW

output from its 90Kva unit.

Powervamp is unique in the UK in being both software

designer and manufacturer of its industry leading solid state

GPUs. Its philosophy is to engineer unparalleled reliability,

achieved by generously sized electrical and electronic

components. With all power stage components in a single

pull-out module – replaceable in minutes – downtime and

fault finding are no longer a problem. In the pressured front

line operating environment of airports the PV90-3 is a

converter that does not require the support of trained

technicians. Powervamp’s PV90-3 is designed to be a zero

downtime GPU requiring a minimum of planned maintenance.

The Powervamp PV90-3 features an extra large high-

definition integrated display with simple controls that allow

interrogation of all parameters and functions such as

automatic line drop compensation. The PV90-3’s features

include connectivity and integration with existing

communication platforms supporting a large variety of

Aircraft power cabling and aircraft plugs are subjected to

extremes of wear, impact damage and rough handling. As a

result, power cables and AC plugs are a constant source of

problems at busy airports, with any failure potentially having

an impact on safety, turn-round times and costs.

Powervamp’s Sidewinder cable carrier system is engineered to

give airports a simple, reliable power transfer system at an

UNIQUE MODULAR DESIGN FOR RAPID SWAP-OUT AND UPGRADING

Sidewinder’s unique design enables airports to modify an installed unit toaccommodate stand upgrades or aircraft changes. Anchor holes forsecuring the beam are compatible with most other products allowingrapid swap-out and upgrade without the need to obtain permits or carryout major groundworks.

Powervamp’s bridge mounted electric cable winding/unwinding

unit for 400Hz aircraft power uses a heavy-duty motor

operating via a reduction worm drive gearbox to achieve fast,

consistent uncoiling/coiling speed in all temperatures.

Designed to be easily serviced, the gearbox and controls are

modular units in accordance with Powervamp’s well proven

design philosophy.

Housed in a galvanised steel chassis with 4 clamp/bolt

fixings for a rapid air-bridge underslung installation and fitted

with quick access lightweight side panels, the Powervamp

Cable Coiler, like its Sidewinder alternative, is suitable for use

with any air-bridge and converter.

The well proven product, manufactured and marketed jointly

by Powervamp and Estel, both respected designers and

producers of ground power equipment, is supported

worldwide through their joint sales and service networks,

guaranteeing support without delay.

Where limited ramp space or heavy winter snow and ice

make the rapidly deployable Sidewinder system unsuitable,

the cable coiler, while supplied as standard in 22m reeled

cable length, can have optional cable spools to accept 30 or

40 metres.

The units’s low noise, heavy-duty “reeling motor” and

precision worm drive is controlled from an impact-resistant

pendant control with inbuilt diagnostic display. It is designed

to operate in extreme temperatures, incorporating motor

heaters for sub zero operation. Should a failure occur in the

coil winder or associated systems, an electromagnetic clutch

allows instant free wheeling of the cable coiler and immediate

manual operation.

The Powervamp SCAMMER – self-contained, air mobile,

modular, emission-reduced – GPU comprises a small high-

efficiency three cylinder diesel engine able to run on diesel

or jet A1 fuel, direct coupled to a generator. Depending on

specification, this provides continuous AC or DC power and

very high amperage for starting turbines or powering

aircraft systems for short duration using internal batteries.

For versatility, the 28 volt DC output and 110 or 230 volt

50/60Hz domestic voltage can be used simultaneously

allowing the GPU to be used as a conventional generator-

set. In enclosed spaces such as maintenance shops or

hangars, the diesel engine can be shut down and the unit

powered directly from any 400 volts AC mains supply to

provide 28V DC power without discharging the batteries.

The SCAMMER was first developed in 1995 for the UK

military in response to the need for a low cost self

contained GPU able to produce both continuous DC power

for pre-flight/avionics use and short-term high power for

turbine starting.

In various configurations and in series production over 17

years, with sales to several armed forces, the latest version

of this mini diesel GPU has been adapted for civil use and

is now available for FBOs, regional airlines, and operators

requiring versatile remote power at a fraction of the cost of

a conventional diesel GPU.

Powervamp’s 28 volt DC Coolspool ramp

carts are designed to replace diesel GPUs

or fixed and semi-mobile transformer

rectifier units (TRUs). Where no mains

power is present or noise curfews prohibit

use of diesel GPUs, they are a highly

efficient, low cost power source – operating

at a fraction of the cost of a diesel GPU, yet

able to deliver the same power and turbine

starting output. They provide a combination

of instant high amperage with pure DC

wave form and full mobility, low initial

investment and extremely low operating

This high performance 28.5 volt (nominal) battery cart is

designed for the smaller corporate jet, helicopter operator and

FBO requiring remote power for starting and avionics work.

The 130 amp/hr high discharge special blocs are maintenance

free. An 80 amp internal quick demount charger/power supply

will recharge the unit in approx 50 minutes from 50% depth of

COOLSPOOL 260

Using the same chassis, internal charger and hardware as

the Coolspool 130, this 28 volt nominal battery cart has

double the amp/hr capacity of the CS130. It is designed for

heavier turbine starting or where more frequent or

prolonged use before re-charge occurs.

In use by many civil and military operators world wide, the

Coolspool 260 is perfect for ramp operations and on such

duties as multi-compressor washing of helicopter turbines

GPU 2400

Designed as a larger, more powerful pack than the

GPU1700, where the starting of larger turbines

with longer start cycles demands more amp/hr

capacity, the GPU 2400 is a high performance

pack designed for tough daily operations in harsh

or remote environments.

It can also be coupled in parallel to double its

capacity. A simple parallel yoke will instantly

connect two GPU 2400 units to become the GPU

2400 Twin. The GPU has the same heavy-duty pull

on/push off isolator as the GPU 1700, with

replaceable ‘on condition’ silver-plated contacts

for maximum power transfer.

PS50M

Powervamp’s PS50M is a small, lightweight combination

charger/power supply able to deliver 50 amps at a pre-

set voltage between 28.4 and 31.5 volts (for 28V

Coolspool charging) as selected by the operator. The

power supply can be connected directly to the aircraft’s

external ground power receptacle or to any of

Powervamp’s portable battery GPUs.

They are designed for operators of smaller helicopters

and VLJs needing to download data or programme

avionics in any location where size and weight are

PS100M

Able to provide 100 amps of continuous power, Powervamp’s

PS100M is a 28V power supply designed to power flight

decks of larger corporate/business aircraft using any AC

single phase 110/230 volts 50/60 Hz input. It is supplied as

the factory-approved product by one of the largest business

aircraft manufacturers in the US.

The PS100M has two pre-set voltages: 28.5V for lead acid

battery charging and continuous avionics operation; and

The Portapump unit is a rugged, all-weather fuel pump

designed for the rapid fuelling or defuelling of all types

of aircraft or vehicles using jet A1 or diesel with a flash

point above 37°C. It is designed to be easily transported

by aircraft, helicopter or vehicle. Able to be carried by

one man, it uses a powerful 24–28 volt DC motor direct
