    OUPD301 Module Evaluation

This year I have finally got my branding sorted, coming up with an identity that both reflects mydesign practice as well as my interests. My design presence has been applied to businessstationery and promotional material. At the start of the year, I had re-branded myself, but thisbranding was not relevant to my design practice. Instead of creating an identity that representedwho I am as a designer, I created something that represented what I thought I should be. However, after feedback from industry professionals on my branding, I realised I needed to create somethingthat I could both be proud of and that I thought represented me accurately.

I have gained confidence in myself and my work this year, especially through my industryplacements. This confidence has made it easier for me to contact designers and studios, however,I am aware that this is something I need to keep up with. Networking is an important part of graphicdesign that I need to make more of a focus, using both online networking tools such as Linked In,and through attending relevant events.

This year I have built up a relationship with a particular studio, Holden & Sons, a creativecommunications agency in Manchester. I have been to this studio three times, working on a variety

of live projects for small and big clients, including Kelloggs Rice Krispies Squares. My placementswith this studio were really a turning point as they helped me to realise that I am good enough for ajob in the industry. Feeling like my efforts were useful and appreciated has helped to motivate methrough the third year, to push myself to continuing to improve my design skills. I have been told Ican go back to Holden & Sons whenever I want for a placement, and will be returning soon for aportfolio review. I aim to undertake work experience in other studios also over the summer, with thehope of a placement leading to a job.

Working on live work for clients this year has also helped me to feel more professional, knowingthat my designs will be seen by a wider audience. Completing live work has improved my workethic, making me create higher quality work in a shorter space of time, as I know I have to impress

    others as well as myself.

I am yet to apply for a job, as I wanted to concentrate my full attention on my final major project. Now I finally have a portfolio that I am proud of, I have the motivation to apply for jobs, as well asto directly contact studios. I feel that I have a good skill set and work that I am proud of, I just needto be proactive in applying for jobs.
