Key Changes in PPM 5.0 From Technical / Security stand point: 1. PPM 4.5 uses dual stack but PPM 5.0 is based on single stack. In 4.5 the security roles will be Java based hence the more work we do on this front the more re-engineering is required in future phases. This may affect the game plan for Security implementation at various levels on the portal, reporting and back end system roles. 2. The access in PPM 5.0 NWBC is managed via roles; you get access based on your role. 3. From a vision stand point if it is envisioned to go for an enhancement to PLM 7.0 or 7.1 it is advisable to be on PPM 5.0 as well in which case we can roll out the solution role based via NWBC. From Functionality improvements stand point: 4. Mass import of items and initiatives from excel based files. 5. Fiscal year planning (New) 6. Financial Planning Enhancements 7. Extended financial mappings / Financial integration (Enhanced) 8. Metrics for portfolio (Enhanced) 9. Capital and resource management (enhanced) 10. Classifications (New) This saves additional development efforts for classifications (example like the custom PKI fields on project management) 11. Check In / Check Out of Documents (New) 12. General functions (enhanced) 13. Workflow enabled for initiatives. (New) 14. Process Change and Concept Management Capabilities (New) 15. Views available for initiative's and portfolio items. (New) 16. Consolidated resource views 17. Edit project details directly from the Gantt (Enhanced) From Performance / Usability / User interface improvements stand point: 18. Dash boards have improved. 19. Very customizable interface / Harmonized user interface. 20. Increased performance. 21. New navigation / Drag drop features 22. Reports available directly from the new BCV viewer. 23. Graphical views (enhanced) 24. Enhanced Usability across all components: a. Project management b. Portfolio management c. Resource Management Over all on the Performance and Usability PPM 5.0 definitely brings in better user experience. From Reporting stand point
