record for students. We were the first to launch this facility. A team of 10 members handles

the examination branch. The college has been allocated five examination centers to conduct

the annual exams. We regularly conduct UGC, CET, PMT, Railway Recruitment, Banking

students from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttaranchal,

Uttar Pradesh and Manipur were admitted to the hostel on merit basis. Apart from

providing a comfortable stay in well lit and ventilated rooms, special efforts are made to

provide hygienic and nutritious food to the inmates. A team of 30 office bearers (students)

works in tandem with the hostel staff to manage and organize various activities of the

hostel. Regular surprise checks are undertaken by the Hostel Committee of the college to

ensure smooth running of the hostel. The hostel also promotes the physical, mental and

spiritual well-being of the students through a well stocked library, indoor/outdoor games

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Extra Curricular Activities help in honing “Soft Skills” that relate directly to social

interaction, time management, public relations and community service. Students who excel

in Academic and Extra Curricular Activities have a greater sense of achievement that will

propel them to greater heights and success in their education and career. Practically

speaking, participating in these activities looks good on job applications & shows the

employers that one is a well rounded & responsible individual. So by interspersing

academics with an Extra Curricular Activity-be it a sport, a club, society or community

work- one can refresh oneself & be better able to focus on one’s work!

With this end in view, a number of activities such as Talent Hunt, Inter College & Intra

College Quizzes, Debates, Declamations, Folk Song & Poetry Recitation competitions were

held in the college during this session.

Many dignitaries were invited to interact & share their specialized knowledge & expertise

with the students. It is a matter of honour for the college to place their names on record.

TOWARDS HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT

In holistic education, the teacher is seen less as a person of authority who leads and

controls and more as a friend, a mentor and a facilitator. Institutions should be places

where students and pedagogues towards mutual goals. Thus, the reward of a holistic

training becomes growing together in a conducive atmosphere. With this premise in mind,

we have three NSS Units, NCC (Army Wing) and various clubs, cells and associations

actively functioning in the college.

A detail of their activities during this session is given below.

NSS WING Coordinator: Dr Gurmel Singh

technological infrastructure. The New Information Technology Block was inaugurated on

January 9, 2012 by Mr. K.K. Sharma, Advisor to the Administrator, Union Territory,

Chandigarh. The college is likely to usher in an era of not only making the college tech

savvy but will also encourage tie ups with related industries/ institutions of higher

learning at the national and international level with the help of the facilities available in the

IT Block. The IT block is fully A. C. with four computer labs fully equipped with latest

technology & Nebero internet software management solutions, Conference Room, Video

Studio, Skill Development Lab, Multipurpose Hall , Placement and Career Unit & twelve

teaching rooms. It is worthwhile to mention that there are special facilities for physically

handicapped students in the block. The Chandigarh administration has cleared all decks

for the installation of a Lift in the block which would be first of its kind in an institution of

higher learning.

The college would initiate academic endeavour for the introduction of various courses as

per demand of the global market in the area of Cyber Crime , Animation , Web Designing,

unfulfilled until some more facilities like

v A new Hostel Block

v Advanced Science Block

v Swimming pool

v Extended parking area

Page 44: pppppp1 - gcg42.ac.in
