Application

`

Testing and calibration of multimeters, energy meters, etc.

Field clibration of meters

As a referencemeter or power analyzer

4. Input Power : 220V, +/- 15%, 50Hz

Online calibration or offline calibration along with P301

1. Offline calibration of energy meter along with P301 Source

Use case examples

Energy meter can be automatically calibrated offline, usinng PQ 100 along with a stable source such as P301. Offlinecalibration is more precise than the online one, since the calibration points can be preciely set with stability.

To do this, connect both the energy meter and PQ 100 to the source. An optical pulse sensor can be connected to PQ 100 which can sense the LED pulse of the energy meter. On the Pq100 main menu select EM calibration with internal sensor option. On the EM calibration menu, select pulse mode and program the pulse rate of EM. Set the amount of maximum energy to be accumulated. now the set is ready. Set the calibration points on P301 and start the source. Once the source stabilized, on PQ 100, press the begin switch. The test starts and continues till the energy accumulation limit is reached. Then the test stops and the observed error of the energy meter with respect to PQ 100 will be displayed in %ge

Energy meter with revolving disc also can be calibrated by manually counting the revolution and stopping the test. For meters lacking both LED pulse out and revolving disc, test can be carried out with manual mode.

2. Online calibration of energy meter

Using PQ 100 along with the optional external sensor kits and pulse detector, an energymeter installed in the utility can be calibrated with out disconnecting from the system. The voltage probes should be connected to the voltage terminals of the EM and the clamp CT on the current wires. Calibration can be done in pulse mode, revolution mode or manually based on the EM to be calibrated. On PQ 100, the ‘EM calibration ext’ option to be used from the main menu. Since the calibration points are not fixed and the parameters vary with load, higher toleerance should be prodided compared to offline method.
