INTROIT Sung by the Schola

In paradisum deducant te Angeli; in tuo adventu suscipiant te martyres, et perducant te in civitatem sanctam Ierusalem. Chorus angelorum te suscipiat, et cum Lazaro quondam paupere æternam habeas requiem.

May angels lead you into paradise; upon your arrival, may the martyrs receive you and lead you to the holy city of Jerusalem. May the ranks of angels receive you, and with Lazarus, once a poor man, may you have eternal rest.

SCRIPTURE READING Lamentations 2: 1-3; 6-7

How lonely sits the city that once was full of people! How like a widow she has become, she that was great among the nations! She that was a princess among the provinces has become a vassal. She weeps bitterly in the night, with tears on her cheeks; among all her lovers she has no one to comfort her; all her friends have dealt treacherously with her, they have become her enemies. Judah has gone into exile with suffering and hard servitude; she lives now among the nations, and finds no resting-place; her pursuers have all overtaken her in the midst of her distress. From daughter Zion has departed all her majesty. Her princes have become like stags that find no pasture; they fled without strength before the

pursuer. Jerusalem remembers, in the days of her affliction and wandering, all the precious things that were hers in days of old. When her people fell into the hand of the foe, and there was no one to help her, the foe looked on mocking over her downfall.HOMILY Fr Philip Corbett SSC SPS

what but thy grace can foil the tempter's power?Who, like thyself, my guide and stay can be?Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with thee at hand to bless;ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.Where is death's dark sting? where, grave, thy victory?I triumph still, if thou abide with me.

Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes;shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies;heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee;in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

Grant perpetual mercy to your departed servants, who died for our freedom, O Lord, that the hope and faith they had in you may benefit them for all eternity.Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

HYMN (During which a collection will be taken)

All my hope on God is founded;he doth still my trust renew,

me through change and chance he guideth, only good and only true.God unknown, he alonecalls my heart to be his own.

Pride of man and earthly glory, sword and crown betray his trust;what with care and toil he buildeth, tower and temple fall to dust. But God's power, hour by hour,is my temple and my tower.

God's great goodness aye endureth, deep his wisdom, passing thought:splendor, light and life attend him, beauty springeth out of naught.Evermore from his storenewborn worlds rise and adore.

Daily doth the almighty Giverbounteous gifts on us bestow;his desire our soul delighteth, pleasure leads us where we go.Love doth standat his hand;joy doth wait on his command.

Still from man to God eternal

sacrifice of praise be done, high above all praises praisingfor the gift of Christ, his Son.Christ doth callone and all:ye who follow shall not fall.

ACT OF REMEMBRANCE

READING “War broke”

Wilfrid Owen – 1914

War broke: and now the Winter of the world With perishing great darkness closes in. The foul tornado, centred at Berlin, Is over all the width of Europe whirled, Rending the sails of progress. Rent or furled Are all Art's ensigns. Verse wails. Now begin Famines of thought and feeling. Love's wine's thin. The grain of human Autumn rots, down-hurled. For after Spring had bloomed in early Greece, And Summer blazed her glory out with Rome, An Autumn softly fell, a harvest home, A slow grand age, and rich with all increase. But now, for us, wild Winter, and the need Of sowings for new Spring, and blood for seed.

COMMEMORATION & CENSING OF THE CATAFALQUE

Let us remember before God, and commend to his sure keeping those who have died for their country in war; those whom we knew, and whose memory we treasure; and all who have lived and died in the service of mankind.

Here follows The Silence.

Almighty and eternal God, from whose love in Christ we cannot be parted, either by death or life: hear our prayers and thanksgivings for all whom we remember this day; fulfil in them the purpose of your love; and bring us all, with them, to your eternal joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

During the censing the schola sing “Night Prayers” – Margaret Rizza

HYMNEternal Father, strong to save, whose arm hath bound the restless wave, who bidd'st the mighty ocean deepits own appointed limits keep:O hear us when we cry to theefor those in peril on the sea.

O Christ, whose voice the waters heardand hushed their raging at thy word, who walkedst on the foaming deep, and calm amid the storm didst sleep;O hear us when we cry to theefor those in peril on the sea.

Most Holy Spirit, who didst broodupon the chaos dark and rude, and bid its angry tumult cease, and give, for wild confusion, peace:O hear us when we cry to theefor those in peril on the sea.O Trinity of love and power, our brethren shield in danger's hour;from rock and tempest, fire and foe, protect them wheresoe'er they go;thus evermore shall rise to theeglad hymns of praise from land and sea.
