Comprehensive SystemControl with AC Traction This system provides unmatchedtruck control and system performance in:

• Traction control

• Operator interface

• Diagnostics

Crown’s technology provides a closed-loop traction control system which maintains speedthroughout the battery charge. The large Crown-manufacturedAC traction motor specifically de-signed for lift truck applications, provides improved accelerationand plug reversal contributing togreater productivity. The Access™display offers seven hour meterreadouts and odometer. The operator message mode includesBDI, truck hours, odometer, tripodometer, or timer. Built-in PIN-code (up to 25) capability that canbe programmed by customers.

The Access display also includesa full featured on-board servicetool. The service technician canactively view inputs and outputsduring truck operation. Eventcode history including the last 16 event codes are accessible. No service key, laptop, or handset required.

Access controller has full-timemanagement control of tractionand other system inputs and outputs. Access 1 2 3 technologysimplifies the system by reducingcomponentry including contactors, relays, and other hard-wiredcomponents.

InfoPoint®

InfoPoint System allows yourtechnician to troubleshoot withoutcomplicated schematics, wiringdiagrams or cumbersome servicemanuals for over 95% of your repairs. Simplicity is completewith InfoPoint Quick ReferenceGuide, color-coded componentmaps, and “information nuggets”located on the truck.

Information on time consists ofclearly labeling each componentand providing an area map show-ing the component location. AQuick Reference TroubleshootGuide is supplied with each truckshowing display operation, codedefinitions, and an overall compo-nent ID of the entire truck.

Operator Area and ControlsThe PR 4500 Series incorporatesnumerous design features to improve operator comfort andproductivity. The side-stance position provides the operatorwith maximum visibility. The compartment cradles the operatorwith a wrap-around chassis whilethe suspended floorboard withpremium floor mat provides maximum comfort.

The PR has a left hand steer tillerwith full-time power steering. Fullfunction control is provided for the right hand to control travel direction and speed, raise, lower and horn.

Electrical SystemHeavy-duty 24-volt electrical system for demanding ware-house, dock and transport appli-cations. Crown-manufactured AC drive motor is application designed for reliability and ease of service.

HydraulicsA heavy-duty pump, motor, reservoir and control are assembledinto one unit. A centrally locatedlift cylinder, mounted vertically, isequipped with long-life polyurethanepacking. A pressure compensatingflow control valve is an integralpart of the valve block and regulatesmaximum lowering speed. Over-load valve protects hydrauliccomponents.

Drive UnitCrown-manufactured gears arehard finished and dual machinedfor high quality. All gear drive fromdrive motor to drive wheel axle.Drive tire axle is mounted in thedrive unit on both sides for maxi-mum strength in rough floor ordocking applications. Drive unit istop and bottom mounted. Topmount is a large, tapered rollerbearing for vertical or horizontalforces. Bottom mount has fourshock mounted rollers on driveunit running in a hardened steelroller race. Gear train runs in an oil-filled, sealed housing.

Caster SystemStandard on the PR 4500 Seriesare shim free, spring loaded, articulating, stabilizing casters forfork lengths up to 96". Quick adjustment casters with torsionbar are standard on fork lengthsabove 96". Quick adjustmentcasters or quick adjustment casters with torsion bar is optionalfor 96" forks and below.

Quick adjustment casters adjustquickly to enable braking, traction, steer effort and stability to becomebalanced. This system can alsoincrease tire life by as much as 60 percent by permitting moretire wear. The torsion bar suspen-sion is designed to maximize stability on tall unwieldy and lessstable loads.

PR 4500 Series Technical Information

Fork AssemblyFork width - 9.12" on standard-tipfork models, 10" on extended-tipfork models. Fork spread - 22"and 27" on standard-tip models.23" - 26" spread available in oneinch increments. 23" and 28"standard on extended-tip models.Fork spreads from 24"-27" avail-able in one-inch increments.Fork lengths - 36", 42", 48", 54",60", 96" with standard-tip; 84",93", and 96" forks available withextended-tip design for shorterwheelbase.

To facilitate pallet entry/exitCrown has engineered severalfeatures into their fork assembly.Standard-tip forks have palletentry rollers to lift fork over bottom board of pallet. Rollersare made of high molecularweight polyethylene with .75"axle and roll pin.

Extended-tip fork design has totally enclosed tip with full lengthconvex bottom surface creatingan entry ramp. Ramp designhelps fork glide over bottomboards of pallet and keeps weldededges from touching boards of pallet.

Abrasion resistant steel entry/exitslides on both sides of each forkwhich have convex bottom surfaces to prevent snagging asforks move over bottom boardsof pallet. One piece design withradial edges are welded awayfrom contact point of slide.

Exit roller design prevents loadwheel from dropping after cross-ing bottom board. The 3" wide, steel exit roller is positioned directly behind the load wheel to keep the fork rolling. Entry/exitslide design also assists in trouble-free pallet entry/exit.

Fork adjustability is done at thetoe with no need to remove acover plate. Fork heel height ad-justment is done quickly withoutremoving battery. Quick andeasy fork adjustment promotesservicing of fork assembly tokeep pallet entry/exit productive.

Pull rod design incorporates a replaceable “tenon” for fast servicing of pull rod while still inthe truck. Damage related to impacts is limited to the replaceable“tenon”, not the entire pull rod.

Power Unit StructureHeavy gage steel is used in theplatform and power unit skirt withadditional steel reinforcementwhere needed.

The power unit door and motorcover also utilize heavy steel forprotection of critical componentsand long term durability. Thepower unit door swings out foreasy access to components.

e-GEN™ Braking SystemVariable regenerative motor braking is optimized and virtuallyeliminates brake maintenance. When the truck is traveling, if the operator releases the brakepedal, removes travel input request or reverses direction e-GEN braking is applied.

The closed loop Access 1 2 3traction control will keep thetruck static until a travel input isrequested, even when operatingon a grade.

Automatic electric parking brakeactivates when the operator releases the brake pedal and thetruck has been stationary for fourseconds, the truck is keyed off,or the battery has been disconnected.

Pallet Planning GuideOn standard-tip fork models, theload wheel will drop in the secondopening of the pallet when “A” or“B” dimension equals the nominalfork length. On extended-tip forkmodels, the load wheel will dropin the first opening of the secondpallet. On models with a singleload wheel, the “C” dimensionshould be 6" maximum and the“D” dimension should be 14"minimum. On models with tandemload wheels, the “C” dimensionshould be 6" maximum and the“D” dimension should be 17" minimum. Customers that needtandem load wheel trucks, butuse pallets with smaller openings, may be accommodated if themaximum lift height of the truckis reduced. Contact your localCrown dealer for details.

Other Options1. Audible travel alarm

2. Flashing lights

Safety considerations and dangers associated with audibletravel alarms and flashing lightsinclude:

• Multiple alarms and/or lights can cause confusion.

• Workers may ignore the alarms and/or lights after day-in and day-out exposure.

• Operator may transfer the responsibility for “looking out” to the pedestrians.

• Annoys operators and pedestrians.

Dimensions and performancedata given may vary due to manufacturing tolerances. Performance is based on an average size vehicle and is affected by weight, condition oftruck, how it is equipped and the conditions of the operatingarea.
