Why Practex?

Wallbreakers™ is a tool used to train implementation of organisational change. It is about

transforming resistance towards change into understanding, acceptance and support.

Most large change processes involve frustration, resistance, and reduced productivity. This is

a natural part of all change processes. Whether a change process is off to a successful start,

implementation, and anchoring depends on how well managers deal with the human

dimension of the change processes.

implementation, and anchoring depends on how well managers deal with the human

dimension of the change processes.

PRACTISING CHANGE LEADERSHIPWallbreakers is a captivating simulation of a change process, which offers managers a safe

forum in which they can try out difficult leadership skills. Wallbreakers focuses on how to

motivate employees to take part in the desired change, and how different phases of change

processes require different forms of leadership.

Wallbreakers uses game dynamics and is build around a specific business case. Participants

work in groups of three to six. Each group has to navigate a team of fictitious employees

through a change process in three phases. The groups work on change intensity, prioritising

of resources and handling various personality types and individual needs among employees.

THEORYWallbreakers is based on a series of recognized theories on personality types, management,

organizational culture, and change processes, including MBTI/JTI, Edgar Schein, John

Kotter, Rick Maurer and Daniel Goleman.

GAMECHANGERS™

Gamechangers is a leadership simulation about

strategy execution in large organizations. It

focuses on how to engage stakeholders in

carrying out a strategic initiative throughout the

organization.

MUST WIN BATTLESImplementing LEAN, deploying sustainability, or creating a new sales platform can be right

choices for a company. However, they might still fail to be executed. Studies show that the

initiatives fail on the softer side of management. Strategic initiatives that span the whole

organization are frequently so comprehensive that they fundamentally change how work is

done. They can also change the benchmarks used to navigate in other departments. The

personal impact of strategic initiatives can be huge. Executing a strategic initiative requires a

leader that can create coalitions and builds trust in the strategy, in the future and in the

leader’s own competence.

A FIRM AND FLEXIBLE DRIVE

In Gamechangers you learn that your prior experience will not necessarily provide a smooth

ride for you. There is a paradox between planning and action: You have to analyse the

situation, but need to get going.

06

Programs

You have to know what is happening in the organization, and adjust to, build

on, ignore or end other initiatives. You have to create results in order to build a

strong coalition, and you need a coalition to create results. You have to be

firm; on the other hand inflexibility can alienate core stakeholders. You have to

involve companywide resources in development, but still stay true to the vision

of the initiative. Relationships do matter.

THE GAMEThe participants are given the responsibility to implement a strategic change in

a fictitious organization. They have to engage colleagues with different motives

and KPI’s to work in the interest of the strategy. Throughout the game their

abilities to create results and a strong coalition are measured.

The first part of the game focuses on building and utilizing networks within the

organization. The participants do this by communicating and engaging with

the important stakeholders. The second part focuses on realising the benefits

of the initiative, maintaining momentum and integrating the initiative into the

systems and daily life of the organization.

THE THEORY Gamechangers is based on acknowledged theories and models for

negotiation, conflict resolution, influence styles and change leadership.

Amongst these are theories by Richard Shell, Thomas-Kilmann, John Kotter

and Stephen Bungay.

PLAYMAKERS™Playmakers is a simulation focusing on the leadership aspects of project management. It

challenges the participants’ ability to handle all the different aspects of project leadership,

including the ability to lead a project team as well as being aware of and act on all the different

interests presented by different stakeholders. The simulation is about project leadership

rather than project management.

PROJECT LEADERSHIP WITH MANY PHASESProject management is not only about planning and budgeting. Projects often change

character over time and many different stakeholders are involved in the course of the project.

Often steering committees define goals and visions for the project while other stakeholders –

either internal or external - have other agendas that might influence the project. Both external

stakeholders and internal team dynamics must be handled. Project leadership has many

different phases that the project manager must deal with. For many this is a difficult task.

Playmakers trains and teaches participants in the task of leading people: project team

members, steering committees, and others that might influence the course of the project.

The simulation focuses on leading individuals as well as groups.

It focuses on motivation and conflict management as well as communication and negotiation.

Playmakers offers the participants a safe forum where they can try out difficult leadership

tasks, and learn with and from each other.

THE SIMULATIONPlaymakers is based upon a concrete case that defines the setting. During three phases of

the simulation, participants are challenged to lead a concrete project that changes character

as they play. Unforeseen difficulties arise, and goals and visions are changed.

The participants must relate to the long-term goals of the project as well as the

crises that inevitably arise. The participants work in teams to ensure

knowledge sharing and joint learning. The simulation supports participants in

the ability to analyse, recognize and handle organisational, group-based, and

individual dilemmas within project leadership.

FACTS ABOUT PLAYMAKERS• Playmakers is for organizations and companies that want to train project

managers and steering committee members in the art of running a project

successfully.

• One set of Playmakers can be used by 3-5 participants. It is possible to use

more than one set of Playmakers during the same training course of e.g.

20-80 participants.

• The duration of the simulation is 4-6 hours.

• Playmakers can be used as a training course in itself, or it can be an integral

part of a course on project management.

• Playmakers is based on a number of accepted project models and theories

among those are Daniel Goleman, J.R. Katzenbach and Bruce W.

Tuckman.

• Playmakers can be facilitated either by consultants from Workz or by internal

consultants following a certification course.

• Playmakers is available in English and Danish.

• Playmakers is used by numerous organizations including Danfoss, ISS,

Novo Nordisk and on various Mater programmes at Copenhagen Business

School.

• ”Playmakers gives a fantastic insight into the many different aspects that

demand consideration in a big company – both on a political and a personal

level - to ensure optimal performance. The simulation offered us a great

platform for common understanding about what good project management

is to us –the way we do it.”

Time Traps

Course overviewMost of us have, at one time or another, felt daunted and overwhelmed by the number of

tasks and commitments that have been pushed in our direction. The key to tackling these

situations is effective time management.

Why Time Traps Board Simulation?Time Traps Simulation allows employees to apply newly acquired knowledge in a realistic

simulated business environment. As they make realistic business decisions and see the

results of their actions, important business principles become a part of their natural thinking.

They become so used to making the right decision that it becomes second nature to them.

This allows the individual to move from .me awareness to .me management competency, and

then on to mastery of the key skills involved.

OutlineSetting Goals

Goal setting is critical to effective .me management strategies. It's also an important life skill

that many people never learn how to do properly. Goal setting can be used in every single

area life, and it's the first step in using your .me in the way you want to use it.

Effective prioritizing is the lynchpin of good .me management. In this module we focus on

tools and strategies that help you to distinguish between the urgent and the important; to do

the things that really matter rather than the things that the things that scream the loudest; to

concentrate on being effective, not just efficient.

Planning

The next step in successful time management is being consistently productive each day. To

do this, you need to have a daily plan, not just a to-do list, and you need to commit to using

your plan so you stay focused on your priorities.

Tackling procrastination

The ability to overcome procrastination and tackle the important actions that have the biggest

positive impact on life is a hallmark of the most successful people. In this module we discuss

ways in which you can motivate yourself to get moving on even the toughest of tasks.

Organizing

In order to be productive each day, you must create an appropriate environment. By

eliminating clutter, setting up an effective filing system, gathering essential tools and

managing workflow, you'll be well on your way to greater productivity and less stress!

Mind Mapping For Business

“Mind Mapping is contagious because it works. It

has helped businesspeople clearly perceive what

was essential, discriminating it from the noise”.

What is a Mind Map?

A Mind Map is a thinking technique that can be used to generate, visualize, structure and

classify ideas. It mirrors the way our brains are designed to think and memorize information.

Referred to as the ‘Swiss army knife of the brain’ , using Mind Maps has helped millions

unlock their creative potential, improve memory and take notes more effectively. It is a tool

that is easy to learn and apply with multiple applications for business, personal or

educational situations.

Mind Map concept was invented by Tony Buzan in the late 1960s whilst studying

psychology at university.

All of his knowledge and research was combined together to form what has become the

‘ultimate thinking tool’ – the Mind Map.

The concept of Mind Mapping keeps growing in importance. Today there are more than

500,000,000 Mind Maps images on the Internet.

neurological wiring.

In this profile of a person’s brain preferences and its various regions, we have simplified

neuroscience to avoid being too technical, but we have also been conscious not to

over-simplify, because the brain is a web-like structure of neurons which form complex

assemblies of brain cells which make up a person’s brain regions. This brain profile is a

neuroscientific, multi-dimensional assessment that identifies 6 drivers that can be enhanced

for optimum brain performance and 7 different neurological learning styles. It provides
