II. Practical matters

The Research Room

• Working space in library, reserved for assistants,

researchers and visiting scholars.

• At the back of room 1C (with a photocopier)

• Often empty (look out for ‘rechtsverwerking’)

Enroll as a PhD-student

• Obligatory, on yearly basis

• Via KU Loket …

o Appointed with doctoral finality: an email shortly after

your first day at work

o Appointed without doctoral finality: confirmation of your

admission

• Costs (quite a lot of) money (+- 290 €)

• But: sum only to be paid in first year & final year

• And: you get a fancy KU Leuven agenda and a bus card

( 20€) & a student card (i.e. student discounts)

• Flashy quality bikes

• For: AAP/BAP, but not for FWO …

• Duration: KU Leuven mandate

• Free maintenance service by Velo

• Order by registration form (intranet) (could take a while) (+

check KU Loket – Personnel – Personnel file – Travel

• Note: lock your bike or pay the price! (200 €)

Keys

• Office keys: to be obtained at faculty secretariat (10 €

deposit)

• Night key: will be replaced by employee card

o Faculty-gates are locked:

• @ 11 pm (Mon-Thursday)

• @ 9 pm (Friday)

• @ 6 pm (Saturday)

• On Sundays

o BUT: you can always leave through the small white door

The educational training for assistants

• A new education programme for assistants

• The 1st SESSION of October 25 = obliged for

newcomers (part time – full time)

o A cooperation of DOO, professors and assistants

o Three themes:

• The 2nd session of March 2015 = obliged for
