FRANCHE COMTÉMOUTHE 2011
Place: Somewhere around Mouthe Type of housing: A typical chalet
Here is the usual landscape we have in winter.
Next to the two skiers can you imagine a XVII th century cattle-breeding farm made of wood and stone?
In summer, it welcomes herds of cows (the montbéliarde cows).
Place: Nancray Type of housing: A traditional Farm
We are now inside a farm. Throughout the window, there is another farm , made of wood and stone. Imagine it. Here, winters are usually very cold and every farm has to house and shelter the herd of
cows as well as the harvest of hay and also the agricultural machines , but also the farmer's family. ( all under the
same roof).
Place: Saint Point Lake Type of housing: Houses by the lake
All around the lake, can you imagine second- home houses? From these houses, people can fish, go for a swim,
or goboating , bird-watching or simply relax.
In winter, we can skate
Place: Mouthe Type of housing: The church bell-tower, the town-hall and its houses
Now , can you imagine our village ? In the background we can see a church, made of stone dating back from 1732,
with its traditional imperial dome (shaped as a bell and covered with coloured tiles).
We can also see modern houses and a town- hall which is very similar to a castle from the Middles-Ages, with
its four turrets. ( or little towers )
Place: Pontarlier Type of housing: A bigger place with its church, its shops, and also its large impressive houses
Imagine our town which is standing at the bottom
part of the hill. Don’t forget the top of the church bell-tower in its imperial dome style
(shaped as a bell and covered with coloured tiles) emerging and standing higher than the 19th century large impressive houses. In these houses, there
are now shops and little boutiques. ( mainly on their
ground floors )
Place: Joux Type of housing: The fortified castle
Standing at the top of this cliff can you imagine a fortified Middle-Ages castle and its ramparts. The ramparts
were built by the famous architect called :Vauban in 1700.
The château de Joux was used as a state prison and is a good example of the 17th century military architecture.
Imagine the houses of Mouthe A link between our landscape and our local architecture We are sending you six typical sights or views of our region but
they are not faithful reproductions of the real landscapes because some elements have been erased
on purpose, such as: *A typical chalet *A traditional Farm *Some houses by the lake *A church bell-tower and the town-hall and some houses in the
village of Mouthe *Large impressive houses with their shops and boutiques, as
well as a church located in a bigger place *A fortified castle What you have to do is to imagine our general architecture.
