Pray (Empty Gun)

Opening Location

For our opening location we want an empty, black studio with an almost industrial feel to it As a possible location we were thinking of using the Theatre Studio.

To make the location more atmospheric, we are going to use a smoke machine.

Within the smog would be two male dancers, and in front of them, our singer.

We are also interested in playing with the lighting, whether it be blue, red, purple or a combination of the three. The above pictures are photographs taken by Fran which explore the use of blue lighting and smoke in a black setting. Given the positive, effect outcome we are very keen to play with this kind of lighting in the final video. The pictures to the left are just images we have found to give an example of what a purple lighting with smoke would look like. However, we are more interested in maintaining a visual style to our music video and so coloured lights may not be possible.

This is an example, timed to our music, of what the dance would look like. However, in our music video, both dancers would be male.

What our artist will be wearing in this location whilst she lip-syncs:

Our dancers will be wearing:

Matching black tracksuits

Second LocationFor our second location we are planning on a decrepit and dusty, crumbling room or corridor but with all the props within painted gold.

As a possible location for this, we have begun research into perhaps making use of a property development site, so that we can use an old house which is soon to be knocked down. Hannah has a family friend who is soon to demolish their house in Guildford (only half an hour away) and has started to ask about whether or not we would be able to film there.

The reasoning behind using a location like this, is that the song is all about truth, and so we wanted to play with the idea of illusion vs reality. In reality, this artist is struggling (as seen by the poor state of her lodgings) and yet she is trying to convince herself that everything is fine, because everything she has is gold. This idea could also be applied to the music industry and how it seems innocent and fun but supposedly can actually be quite soul-destroying. Not to mention that visually, the idea is both striking and aesthetically pleasing.

What props we want to have in this room, painted gold:

An old mattress

Pillows

Upside-down wooden fruit crate serving as a bedside table

Empty alcohol bottles

An alarm clockThe idea is to make a bedroom.
