Pentecost Sunday
Journey Into Oneself
Life in the modern world is busy. Yet, we make a journey to refresh ourselves by going into new places and by visiting our loved ones. Sometimes we make a journey from one continent to another continent for business, education and work. Like this we go on making numerous journeys in our lives. But how many of us make a journey into ourselves? The big mistake we often make in our lives is finding fault with others and ignoring our own sinfulness. Our Lord says “Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove that splinter from your eye,’ while the wooden beam is in your eye?” (Mt. 7:3-4). When we look into ourselves sincerely, we are able to recognize our own positive and negative sides. Most often our unwillingness makes us not look into ourselves. Therefore, we must take an effort to war against this attitude. Let us check now: ‘Do my liturgical participation and prayers help me make a journey into myself to reconcile with God and neighbors?’ Above all we should notice one thing throughout the Bible, that God never wishes the destruction of the wicked, but his or her conversion. Conversion is nothing but taking a complete turn to another direction. It is not so much a onetime event but a lifelong process. Pope Benedict XVI says conversion implies two dimensions: recognizing our faults and repenting. So, let us recognize our own faults and take efforts to repent. To have a genuine and true conversion we need total surrender to God and His grace. While recognizing our sinfulness let us surrender ourselves totally to the hands of God. If we do so, we will have real joy and meaning in our lives. Prayer: Loving God, I thank You for the blessings and opportunities to journey into my own self. I feel sorry for the failures to recognize my faults and mistakes. Give me grace to turn away from my sinfulness and to create a good atmosphere to have a good relationship with You and my neighbors. I ask this grace through Christ our Lord. Amen Compiled and edited by Fr Heni
PLEASE HELP KEEPOUR CHURCH CLEAN
We are asking all who come to Church for Mass and services to please not bring coffee cups and water bottles with you and leave them in the pews. It takes much time to clean the pews between Masses. We also ask you to please return the missals to the holders and not leave them in the pews. We humbly ask for your cooperation. Thank you for your understanding.
*BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN
A WOMAN’S CONCERN Don’t forget to place a donaton to A Woman’s Concern – Learn Your Option in your baby bottle! Please return your full baby bottles to the church on Sunday, June 11, 2017. If you decide to give a donation by check, please make the check out to A Woman’s Concern. Thank you!
* 2017 CARDINAL’S CATHOLIC APPEAL
The Cardinal would like to thank all who have made a donation to the 2017 Catholic Appeal. If you have not yet made one, you may do so any time of the year. Pledge cards are available in the church vesituble. The Archdiocese has set St. Anthony’s 2017 Catholic Appeal goal for $29, 408.31. We are happy to announce that our parishioners have donated $27,095.00 so far. Keep up the good work and thank you!
BASIC CHRISTIAN COMMUNITYWe have started a new program, namely “Basic Christian Community” (BCC) in our Parish. Basic Christian Community is the life style of early Christians. Few families gather at a home and they pray and reflect over the Word of God. It will enrich our lives and provide a good opportunity to pray for others. It will strengthen our relationship with one another. If anyone wants to have Basic Christian Community in their home, please contact Fr. Heniston.
GOD BLESS

+JUNE 4 – PENTECOST SUNDAY
It is Pentecost, the birthday of the Church! It is called that because Pentecost is when the apostles went out among the people and began spreading Jesus’ message, thus establishing the beginning of the Church. Filled with the Holy Spirit the disciples were unable to hold in how they had experienced the mighty acts of God. We too, have seen God’s mighty deeds. The birth of a baby, an illness healed, success in school or in a new job, are all God’s marvelous work. This feast reminds us that the Holy Spirit has poured upon us the gift we need to speak of the ways God is working in our lives. Don’t let this day end without speaking of God’s mighty deeds.
+ BLESS THE BEASTS AND
THE CHILDREN Bless the beasts and the childen For in this world they have no voice They have no choice Bless the beasts and the children For the world can never be The world they see Light their way when the darkness surrounds them And give them love, let it shine all around them
Bless the beasts and the children Give then shelter from the storm Keep them safe, keep them warm Light their way when the darkness surrounds them And give them love, let it shine all around them Bless the beasts and the childen Give them shelter from the storm Keep them safe, keep them warm (The Carpenters)
GRADUATION DAY The students with their rich maroon gowns flowing and the traditional caps, looked almost as grown up as they felt. Dads swallowed hard behind broad smiles, and Moms freely brushed away tears. This class would NOT pray during the commencements, not by choice but because of a recent court ruling prohibiting it. The principal and several students were careful to stay within the guidelines allowed by the ruling. They gave inspirational and challenging speeches, but no one mentioned divine guidance and no one asked for blessings on the graduates or their families. The speeches were nice, but they were routine until the final speech, received a standing ovation. A solitary student walked proudly to the microphone. He stood still and silent for just a moment, and then, it happened. All 92 students, every single one of them, suddenlty SNEEZED!!!! The student on stage simply looked at the audience and said, “GOD BLESS YOU” And he walked off the stage… The audience exploded into applause. This graduating class had found a unique way to invoke God’s blessing on their future with or without the court’s approval. Isn’t this a wonderful story? This is a true story; it happened at Eastern Shore District High School in Musquodoboit Harbour, Nova Scotia. GOD BLESS YOU!
