Yes, sir. Ladies and Gentlemen of the Senate, and now that I

have your attentiony I rise for the purpose of a very lmporkant

announcement today. My colleague: who normally sits. right in

front of me here in the Senate chamber and also shares the office

next to mine down on M Floor, Senator Bill -- BiIL Peterson,

passed a very significant milestone last Friday, February 2nd,

when he turned -- he's getting close, though. Hefs passing a 1ot IIi

of things, but he dtd pass a mllestone reaching his sixtieth fi

gcing to burn a lot of energy learning about these laptop

computers, so you'll need some -- some sustenance when you finish.

privileqe: sir. I want to -- I want to introduce a very special

guest to the Senate tcday whc's on the Floor. If could have

ycur attention please. want to introduce to the Senate this

afterncon Cinnamon, Who is obviously a teddy bear, but more

importantly, he's an honorary Senator today. He's a student at

Trtnity Lutheran Grade School Bloomington, and each week

each week he travels with a different person in the communityz and

this week lt's my privllege to have Cinnamon with me. And I'm

taklng plctures of Cinnamon at dlfferent places where uill be

attending khis week. At the end of the week, will do a

chronology of -- of my activlties for the entlre week, and then

next week Cinnamon will go back to his second-grade class and

and tell them what Senator Maitland did in -- in Springfield thls

week. He was a guest in the Leadership meeting this afternoon,

and Senator Philip gave him instructions on how to be a good

Ronald Reagan, and we all wish him well and a speedy recovery from

his illness and long life and happiness. And happy birthday,

former President Ronald Reagan, on his elghty-fifth birthday.

were totally unaware, for the last fifteen minutes, that we were

in Sesslon because the speaker system is not working. Purthermore

- - furthermore, when we go in Session, I wish We would just rlngthe bell. If the bell is rung then perhaps some Members can hear

that. But we Were sitting there and Senator Demuzio came in,

saidz ''Well, I'm still kaiting for Session to come in.'' Not

knowing that the speaker system is not working.

PRESIDENT PHILIP:

Senator -- Jones, your -- your comments are certainly in

order. Let me suqgest this: I rang the bell, myself, three

times. And I'm sorry about the -- the PA system in the office,

but I rang the bell, myself, three times. Senator Jones.

SENATOR JONES:

Only thing -- only thin: I'm pcinting out to ycu is that in

the Leadership office there: that I'R not the only one there.

Senator Vince Demuzio came in and saidr ''When we going in?'' Well,

I said, 'dI'm waiting for us to go ln Session.'' And -- and Senator

Cullerton's officey it's not working. So; therefore, Members who

want to be here in Sessicn are unaware that Session is starting.

That's the only thing I'm saytng.
