Blessed by FurnitureBy Sharon Houck, Data Entry Assistant, Water Street Ministries

Imagine a house with no furniture: no place to sit, and no place to sleep.

Such is the case for many of our clients when the time comes for them to move out of the Mission and into a place of their own. They may be able to pay for the rent, utilities, and basics such as food, but their budgets are tight. They often cannot afford a bed to sleep in or a table where their family can eat dinner together. This is an area where the Water Street Mission can step in and lend a hand.

Recently, we had the privilege of providing beds, dressers, a sofa, recliners and a hutch to a family of 4 that had recently moved out of the Mission and into an apartment. Moving day came on a sunny

Wednesday morning. The truck pulled up, and the family and Mission staff began by removing leaky inflatable mattresses and dilapidated storage containers that had served as dressers. Then the “new” furniture was carried in to bless the family in need. They also received a Welcome Basket which contained cleaning items, tissues, toilet paper, soap, etc.

These items were available only through the generous donations from people and businesses in our community. If you have furniture that is clean and in usable condition that you would like to donate, call Eunice at 393-7709 ext. 251 for more information. For hours and directions to our Collection Center, visit wsm.org/needs.
