Life After GraduationBy Sharon Houck, Data Entry Assistant, Water Street Ministries

A little over a year ago, we shared Mike’s journey to become a nurse, and many of you have been praying for him. He would like to thank you for your prayers. He could not have done this without prayer support, and he gives all the credit to God for bringing him to this point in his life.

You see a few weeks ago, Mike graduated from Nursing School and soon will be taking a test to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

Mike tells me that he first came to the Mission to sober up. In his words, he had used and “crushed his friends”. He had no family or friends. He was alone, and that’s why he thinks God could make such a change in his life. There was nothing else pulling for his attention.

As he sits in my office, I see nothing of the man he claims to have been. I see a man humbled by God’s leading in his life, a man at peace with his life. He exudes a gentle spirit and servant heart. A heart and spirit that he says “was not taught to him in words, but by the example of his mentor and of Mis-sion staff.”

His goal is to work with people in acute care, such as hospice care. He wants to care for them as Jesus cared for people. “Jesus didn’t always heal. Sometimes he just washed their feet,” Mike said. He asks for your continued prayer as he takes the LPN test and will soon be ready to move into his own apartment.
