MADAGASCAR“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Friday FocusWe are familiar with television wildlife programmes showing us the magnificent and unique fauna of Madagascar.

However, we see little of the people who live in poverty in isolated communities. This large island is one of the poorest countries in the world. There is widespread malnutrition which significantly affects children under five.

On top of this, frequent tropical cyclones bring floods which destroy crops and houses. Overland travel is time-consuming and difficult, so there is great demand by missions and other agencies for our flights. However, there are only 92 airstrips to serve the thousands of villages.

MAF has been working in the islands since 1988. Our presence has encouraged other organisations to start work there. So there is great scope for us to expand our work, but this is dependent on our being able to fly more frequently and work with more agencies. And this is where we turn to our prayer partners.

Your prayers are vital to our work in Madagascar, as we support the work of the churches, Christian missions and various medical and development agencies that serve this developing nation. ‘Pray continually’ is Paul’s entreaty to the Thessalonian church and to all of us who are part of Christ’s Church today.

1 JUNE

When cyclones strike Madagascar, our flights are invaluable in assessing damage to public buildings, homes and infrastructure.

Lord, we thank You for our partnership with churches, missions and many caring agencies in Madagascar. By Your Spirit, strengthen and widen this work so that many people will discover the power of Your healing and saving love.

SATURDAY 1 Pray for Bert and Janetta van den Bosch. As Country Director, Bert not only leads our team of international and local workers but is also responsible for HoverAid. Praise God for this partnership, and pray that Bert will know God’s guiding in everything he does.Janetta and Bert van den Bosch

MONDAY 3 Pray for lasting peace in Madagascar where the political situation can be volatile. Pray that the caring work of the partners we support will make a real difference to the nation’s welfare.

WEDNESDAY 5 The eye team at Good News Hospital at Mandritsara relies on our flights to reach a number of isolated communities. Praise God for the Christian witness of this sight-giving ministry.

2-8 JUNE

Meeting needs in MadagascarWe can only meet Madagascar’s great needs by turning to God for inspiration, guidance and strength.
