Prayer for Peace to Mary, the Light of Hope St. John Paul II Immaculate Heart of Mary, help us to conquer the menace of evil which so easily takes root in the hearts of the people of today and whose immeasurable effects already weigh down upon our modern world and seem to block the paths toward the future. From famine and war, deliver us. From nuclear war, from incalculable self-destruction, from every kind of war, deliver us. From sins against human life from its very beginning, deliver us. From hatred and from the demeaning of the dignity of the children of God, deliver us. From every kind of injustice in the life of society, both national and international, deliver us. From readiness to trample on the commandments of God, deliver us. From attempts to stifle in human hearts the very truth of God, deliver us. From the loss of awareness of good and evil, deliver us. From sins against the Holy Spirit, deliver us. Accept, O Mother of Christ, this cry laden with the sufferings of all individual human beings, laden with the sufferings of whole societies. Help us with the power of the Holy Spirit to conquer all sin: individual sin and the "sin of the world", sin in all of its manifestations. Let there be revealed once more in the history of the world, the infinite saving power of the redemption: the power of merciful love. May it put a stop to evil. May it transform consciences. May your Immaculate Heart reveal for all the light of hope. Amen Old St. Marys, now in its 186 th year of faith and service to Gods people, and served by the Holy Spirit Fathers since 1893, extends a warm welcome to all! Our second collection today is for our Maintenance Fund. In todays Scripture readings, Gods tremendous love is shown through His outpouring of the gift of the Holy Spirit upon the Gentiles. His love is also evidenced in the wonderful gift of His Son, Jesus, who directs us to love one another as I love you. The Lord professes there is no greater love than this: to lay down ones life for ones friends. Jesus does this by His sacrifice on the Cross. In gratitude for Christs sacrifice and abundant blessings, how are we, as faithful stewards, returning this love to Him and our neighbor in need? St. Joseph spent a lifetime laboring as a carpenter. His primary motivation for working was not a quest for riches or status, but a desire to serve God and to care for his family in a loving way. Joseph never worked any miracles; he never made any important speeches; he wasnt a public figure, but was known only as a humble carpenter. Nonetheless Joseph was given an important part in Gods plan. Take a few moments to prayerfully examine your work/life balance, and ask the Holy Spirit along with St. Joseph to inspire your thoughts, desires, and decisions as to what might need to be adjusted to reflect Gods priorities. Prayer for Peace to Mary, the Light of Hope St. John Paul II

Immaculate Heart of Mary, help us to conquer the menace of evil which so easily takes root in the hearts of the people of today and whose immeasurable effects already weigh down upon our modern world and seem to block the paths toward the future.

Amen

Old St. Mary’s, now in its 186th year of faith and service to God’s people, and served by the Holy Spirit Fathers since 1893, extends a warm welcome to all! Our second collection today is for our Maintenance Fund.

In today’s Scripture readings, God’s tremendous love is shown through His outpouring of the gift of the Holy Spirit upon the Gentiles. His love is also evidenced in the wonderful gift of His Son, Jesus, who directs us to love one another as I love you. The Lord professes there is no greater love than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. Jesus does this by His sacrifice on the Cross. In gratitude for Christ’s sacrifice and abundant blessings, how are we, as faithful stewards, returning this love to Him and our neighbor in need?

St. Joseph spent a lifetime laboring as a carpenter. His primary motivation for working was not a quest for riches or status, but a desire to serve God and to care for his family in a loving way. Joseph never worked any miracles; he never made any important speeches; he wasn’t a public figure, but was known only as a humble carpenter. Nonetheless Joseph was given an important part in God’s plan. Take a few moments to prayerfully examine your work/life balance, and ask the Holy Spirit along with St. Joseph to inspire your thoughts, desires, and decisions as to what might need to be adjusted to reflect God’s priorities.

Prayer for Renewal

Lord, we are the people the sheep of your flock, heal us when we are wounded, comfort us when we are in pain, touch us when we are lonely, strengthen us when we are weak. Help us to know the Father's love through Jesus the shepherd and through His Spirit. Help us to build up His love and show it all over this land. Help us to build love and justice, justice and love. Help us to believe mightily, hope joyfully, love divinely. Renew us that we may help renew the face of the earth. Amen

SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER PAGE 3 MAY 9, 2021

Sixth Sunday of Easter A Reflection from the writings of Fr. Wayne Epperley, CSSp

Betrayed , arrested, convicted, judicially murdered - events unfolded out of love for friends. This Jesus of the scars assures us that evil - -whose teeth are swords, -whose molars are knives, -who seeks to devour the very Spirit of God -will never have the ultimate victory.

The worst thing that evil can do is not to bomb and burn and destroy cities but to kill goodness itself. And so indeed does the nail-torn Christ say to us: I come to you as faithful friend, As life-saving remedy, The one with whom you will graciously face the challenges of every day life. Beloved, scarred men come for healing only to scarred hands… Only a Risen Christ with scars can understand our hearts. Beloved, Christ reminds us that this is not an age of war but an age of scars… And we all have them...everybody… Scars on bodies --the result of the wounds of war; Scars on souls —the results of the wounds of Godlessness; Scars of hate, fear, anxiety, bitterness --scars born of the offense against Love. In His instructions to the Apostles, our Lord longed for a new world for God’s children… A world where we would no longer be confined in a mortal prison by hatred and anger and mistrust. Christ seeks to lead us to this world --one which gives meaning and happiness to our lives. It is a journey that involves His obedience to the Father just as our journey involves obedience to Christ. Freedom in Christ is not about having a lot of choices...it is not about being able to pick and choose depending on our whims… It is about doing what is good because that is what we most deeply desire… Doing only that which is in accordance with our highest destiny. In order to become this kind of person, we must train ourselves to act virtuously - To do what is right in an utterly spontaneous way. It is in living the cardinal virtues that we learn what true love entails—to overcome selfishness, infatuations, fleeting desires and so to begin to walk in holiness. In His Son’s rising from the dead, God has left His fingerprint on our hearts - -A longing for communion with Him, -Peace with Him, -Sharing with Him a love that will last to eternity. God has placed the honor of His will in our hands. Each word of His revelation states that He respects us and trusts us and has given us dignity and responsibility. Beloved, today, with holy maturity, we embrace His commands, pledge our obedience to whatever He may have called us. Today we acknowledge God as great And His Son as truly Regal - He who removes the scars of our lives, -who invites us to place our fingers into the wounds of His hands and side, -who allows us to touch the very dome of Heaven, - He who out of love will keep our hearts incorruptible allowing us to see that we all belong together in one enormous symphony of being.
