Who Are You Praying For?
1 Timothy 2:1 - I exhort therefore, that, first of all,
supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks,
be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may
lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty

Prayer of Supplication
Supplication is simply asking for something. Prayer should
never be all asking, but it should ask in bold confidence from
God's Word.
Entreat the favor of God for our requests
The prayer of supplication is a prayer that is prayed over
and over again for others. You’re asking God on their
behalf for their needs to be met
A person’s deliverance and victory in some area of life may
hinge on your obedience to God in praying the prayer of
supplication for them regularly
The prayer of supplication can stop the hindrances of Satan
in a person’s life

Example: Prayer of Nehemiah 1: 6-11
let Your ear now be attentive and Your eyes open to hear the prayer of Your
servant which I am praying before You now, day and night, on behalf of the sons of
Israel Your servants, confessing the sins of the sons of Israel which we have sinned
against You; I and my father's house have sinned.
7 "We have acted very corruptly against You and have not kept the
commandments, nor the statutes, nor the ordinances which You commanded Your
servant Moses. 8 "Remember the word which You commanded Your servant Moses,
saying, 'If you are unfaithful I will scatter you among the peoples; 9 but if you
return to Me and keep My commandments and do them, though those of you who

Supplication Scriptures
Daniel 9:3: And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by
prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and
ashes:
Psalms 143:1: A Psalm of David. Hear my prayer, O LORD,

Who Are You Praying For?
What is Intercessory Prayer? - intercessory prayer is
the act of praying on behalf of others
Intercessory prayer is the act of praying for other people.
The Lord instructed us to pray not only for our own personal
needs but to reach out and pray for others as well.
The role of mediator in prayer was prevalent in the Old
Testament, in the cases of Abraham, Moses, David, Samuel,
Daniel and fervent prayer for Peter in Acts 12:5.
Christ is pictured in the New Testament as the ultimate
intercessor, who ever liveth to make intercessions for us to
the Father God (Hebrews 7:25)

I Thought Only Special People Are
Gifted to Intercede?
There is an erroneous idea in
contemporary Christianity that
those who offer up intercessory
prayers are a special class of
“super-Christians,” called by God
to a specific ministry of
intercession.
The Bible is clear that all
Christians are called to be
intercessors.

INTERCESSOR
The Chosen
Ones
I Thought Only Special People Are
Chosen to Intercede?
God has given all Christians the Holy Spirit in their
hearts and, just as He intercedes for us in accordance
with God’s will (Romans 8:26,27), we are to intercede
for one another.
This is not a privilege limited to an exclusive Christian
elite; this is the command to all. In fact, not to
intercede for others is sin of omission:
“As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD
by failing to pray for you” (1st Samuel 12:23).

Prayer of Intercession
Colossians 4:2,3: Continue in prayer, and watch in the
same with thanksgiving;
3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto
us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ,
for which I am also in bonds:
4 That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.
1 Thess 5:17: “Pray Continually”
Continue in prayer - That is, do not neglect it; observe it at all
stated times; maintain the spirit of prayer, and embrace all
proper occasions to engage in it;

for favorable opportunities
Watch to ensure that your mind may be in a right frame
of mind and attitude when you pray and that you won’t
neglect to pray when it is needed
Prayer should be mingled with praise
and thanksgiving

Prayer to See the Gospel Preached
That God would open to us a door of utterance - To
preach the gospel. He earnestly desired to have
liberty to preach the gospel, and asked them to
pray that this might be restored to him;
Ephesians 6:19: (Berean Bible) Pray also for me, that
whenever I open my mouth, divine utterance may be
given me, so that I will boldly make known the mystery of

Ephesians 6:18 - Praying always with all prayer and
supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with

By the aid of the Holy Spirit: What does that mean? It
depends upon your doctrine
The Greek word translated “pray in” can have several
different meanings. It can mean “by means of,” “with the help
of,” “in the power of,” and “in connection to.”

Praying in an Unknown Tongue
1 Corinthians 14:14 - For if I pray in an unknown
tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is
unfruitful.

Praying in the Spirit
Increases Our Spiritual Awareness
Prayer, especially in the Spirit allows us to move out of
the flesh and able to concentrate on matters of the
Spirit
It’s not like Meditation where a person has to “empty”
themselves in order to make “contact”
Acts 13:2 - As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted,
the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for
the work whereunto I have called them.
As they fasted and prayed, the Holy Ghost provided divine

Praying In Tongues is a Spiritual
Manifestation in the Believer
Acts 2:4 - And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost,
and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit
gave them utterance.
Ephesians 5:18 - And be not drunk with wine, wherein is
excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
For the purpose of this study, we will not delve into
the study of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, evidenced
by speaking in tongues. Our focus is how our prayer
language is greatly enhanced and exercised by

Speaking and Singing in the Spirit
Speaking in tongues is a public ministry gift that
should be followed by interpretation and is used to
edify the body of Christ
Singing in the spirit. God can give us the freedom to
exercise the gift of tongues in a melodic way, so it
flows in with worship.
However, based on the principles in this chapter, if this is
done, it should never be done in a way that would draw
attention to itself or distract others.

Romans 8:26,27
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we
know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the
Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings
which cannot be uttered.
27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the
mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for
the saints according to the will of God.
When we have exhausted ourselves in prayer physically, the
Spirit of God is able to pray through and intercedes for us

Make Your Prayers Fervent?
Effectual Fervent Prayer – What Does it Mean?
James 5:16: Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for
another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a
righteous man availeth much.
Much of our prayer is not effective simply because it is not
fervent. It is offered with a lukewarm attitude that virtually asks
God to care about something that we care little about.
Of a righteous man – Must be a man in right standing and a
righteous attitude linked to “right thinking”
Availeth much – It accomplishes what it purposes to do

Don’t Pray Amiss
James 4:3 - Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask
amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
Praying amiss is the result of not knowing how to ask and what
to ask for.
To know how to pray and for what to ask one must study the
Word of God.
Because ye ask amiss - Ye do it with a view to self-indulgence
and carnal gratification.

Prayer in the Early Church
And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine
and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in
prayers.” (Acts 2:42)
The church began in the “Upper Room” where they
were empowered as they prayed in one accord
(Acts 2:1-4)

Early Church Prayed
When the early church prayed together, they saw
results!
The lame walked, the blind saw, the dead were brought
back to life, rooms were shaken, prison doors were
open, chains were loosed, and boldness was given
when the early church prayed!
God is still able to do these same things today and
is doing it before our eyes
But it comes through prayer and fasting, not only
individually but corporately through intercession

Prayers for Others and the Church
Wisdom and power: Ephesians 1:17-20 says, "That the God of our Lord
Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and
revelation in the knowledge of him. I pray also that the eyes of your heart
may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has
called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his
incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the
working of his mighty strength."
Strength, maturity, and knowledge of God's love: Ephesians
3:16-19 says, "I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you
with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in
your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and
established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp
how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know
this love that surpasses knowledge-that you may be filled to the measure of
all the fullness of God."

Prayers for Others and the Church
That God will provide Discernment: Philippians 1:19-21 says,
"And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in
knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern (and
comprehend) what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of
Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ -
to the glory and praise of God. I pray through spiritual discipline and
maturity, your senses are trained to discern good from evil (Hebrews 5:14)”
Spiritual understanding, bearing spiritual fruit and knowing
God's will: Colossians 1:9.10 says, "For this reason, since the day we
heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to
fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and
understanding. so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to
please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing
in the knowledge of God;"

Praying Scriptures
Boldness in sharing the faith: Philemon 1:6 says, "I pray that
you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a
full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ. -
And Lord, grant unto your servant(s), that with all boldness they
may speak thy word (Acts 4:29)”
Pray that God would save unbelievers: Romans 10:1 says,
Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that
they may be saved.
