Dear Friends,

The 2016 Catholic Charities Appeal was launched this past February with a theme of A NEW VISION. At that time Archbishop Chaput spoke about how important your support was in making a difference in the lives of those in need. This year the Catholic Charities Appeal is hoping to raise over 15 million dollars to support the many ministries and programs of the Archdiocese that touch the lives of the poor, the sick, the homeless, and many others who depend upon the Catholic church for assistance. I am happy to announce as of this date families from our parish have responded to the Appeal totaling $70,479 in pledges and gifts bringing us to 91% of our parish goal of $77,610.

For all of you who have already supported to this important cause I can’t thank you enough. For those of you still considering your commitment, I ask you to remember the people and programs this annual charity drive supports. We need to have a heart like Jesus, who has a preferential love for the poor and the less fortunate. Please consider helping the Church reach out to those in need in the name of Christ. There are pledge cards available on a table in the narthex of the church as well as in our parish office.

Remember that the Catholic Charities Appeal is a separately incorporated non-profit organization of the Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia with its own Board of Directors who will ensure the funds are spent only in accordance with the Appeal case statement. Please use the pledge cards available in church or at the office or donations can be made online at www.catholiccharitiesappeal.org.

Congratulations to now FATHER Matt Biedrzycki who was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia this Saturday at the Cathedral Basilica of SS Peter and Paul. Fr. Matt will be back, how appropriately, on Father’s Day Weekend to celebrate the 10:30 Mass. Please pray for all of your priests who are celebrating the anniversary of their Ordinations during this time of May.

Let us continue to bring flowers to adorn our May shrine to the Blessed Mother. Mary will always lead us to her Son Jesus Christ.

Although the calendar tells us the summer season will soon be upon us please check out all the exciting offerings and opportunities you have to get involved and live your faith in this bulletin.

Saint Joseph, Pray for Us!

The Loaves and Fishes

Project With the Loaves and Fishes Project, giving is as easy as 1-2-3:

• Grab a can of soup, a box of pasta, or any non-

perishable item from your cupboard as you dash out the door to Mass.

• Drop off your donation in the “Loaves and Fishes” closet on your right as you come into church.

• Enter the church with the warm feeling of a nourished soul!

The Loaves and Fishes team will deliver the items to the Lord’s Pantry in Downingtown. Feel free to contribute to this “ongoing food drive” once a week, once a month, or once a year. As a church family, we can make a much appreciated contribution and a significant impact to a charity that helps over 700 families every week.

Please contact Nancy Farrington at [email protected] or 610-620-3619 for more information.

Prayer of the Jubilee Year

of Mercy December 8, 2015 to November 20, 2016

Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us to be merciful like the

heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you sees

Him. Show us your face and we will be saved. Your loving

gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by

money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking

happiness only in created things; made Peter weep after his

betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief. Let us

hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you

spoke to the Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gift of

God!”

You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God

who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy:

let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord

risen and glorified. You willed that your ministers would

also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel

compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone

who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven

by God.

Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its

anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of

grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed

enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim

liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the

blind.

We ask this through the intercession of Mary, Mother of

Mercy, you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy

Spirit for ever and ever.

Amen.

In today’s Gospel Jesus talks about life with his Father and the Spirit. He tells his disciples that what belongs to the Father belongs to him, and that the Spirit will take from what is his and give it to them. Jesus helps us understand that the relationship between Father, Son and Spirit is one of perfect sharing and loving generosity. This shared life is the foundation for what we now understand as part of living life in the Trinity. The abundant generosity of those who are good stewards of the gifts entrusted to them gives us a glimpse into the love of the Triune God. Does the generosity with which we live our lives bear witness to God’s extraordinarily generous life within us?

Perpetual Adoration Pope Francis' thoughts on Adoration:

"How good it is to stand before a crucifix, or on our knees before the Blessed Sacrament, and simply to be in his presence! How much good it does us when he once more touches our lives and impels us to share his new life! What then happens is that 'we speak of what we have seen and heard'(1 Jn 1:3).” (Pope Francis "Evangelii Gaudium, Nov. 24, 2013).

If you have never visited our Adoration chapel, please make a point this week to stop in the Holy Family Center and allow Christ to touch your life! The chapel is open 24/7, so please come in any time. If you are already a visitor, please commit an hour a week so that every hour has committed adorers and co-adorers. You may sign up for any hour; the time blocks listed here are the hours most in need of scheduled adorers:
