    Worship Gathering May 7, 2017

  • Whether you are a first-time guest or have been gathering with us for some time, we are glad you are with us today. We are a family of Jesus-followers who gather each week to worship God and scatter each week to reflect God. Thanks so much for worshipping with us. Please join us in reflecting God throughout the week.

Please complete a blue guest card from the back of the worship center seats and place it in the offering tray as it passes you. We would love to be able to contact you to say hello. If you would like to know more about being a Jesus-follower, being baptized, or becoming a part of Lafayette, you are invited to meet with those in the prayer room just after the sermon. Turn left as you exit the back of the worship center; the prayer room is on the right just past the kitchen.

1 Time to rejoice Followers of Jesus love to rejoice when good things happen to others. At Lafayette we are rejoicing with Ashley Dolan, Nathan Enix, Kendall Malcolm, Jordan Noyes, and Dylan Roper (and their families) as they graduate from college. What an exciting time of transition for these young adults who we so love! 2 Walking by the Spirit The Wednesday adult class has just completed a unit on Learning the Way of Jesus which focused on some difficult teachings of Jesus and a call to repent. The heavy matters we encountered would be overwhelming to face alone. What a blessing to have the Holy Spirit of God working in us to accomplish the transformation that God wills for us. Walking by the Spirit, a new class focusing on the Holy Spirit begins this week. 3 SERVE Groups The early church met together in both large groups and small groups. Small group ministry has been important to Lafayette for many years. We are currently gearing up for our last wave of SERVE Groups before the summer break. If you did not have opportunity last week to sign up, please see Kyle Johnson today so you don’t miss out. 4 SummerJAM Jesus taught us to value children. SummerJAM 2017: Rooted in Jesus is one way Lafayette tries to do just that. Having deep and strong roots in Jesus helps us weather the storms and trials in our lives and stay grounded. June 23-25 is going to be a great weekend! See Dave Wilhelm for more details.

David Fitch writes: “If the older you get, the less prickly you become, you have a good sign God is working in you.” And we are tempted to add, “And if you are becoming more prickly…,” but let’s keep this on a positive track. Isn’t it amazing to watch a person soften over the years as they walk with God? It is nothing short of a miracle to see a hardened man or woman become gentle, kind, patient, and loving. God’s kindness leads us to repentance. God’s grace is transformative. God’s love fills our hearts to overflowing. The Holy Spirit, poured out upon us as a beautiful gift, dwells in us and bears fruit in our lives. Maybe we need to take time to notice and appreciate the transformation we can see when God is at work in people, even if that person is looking back at us in the mirror. — Bob Clark
