Third Sunday in Ordinary Time In today’s Gospel we hear Jesus calling Peter, Andrew, James and John to follow him. Following Jesus was a difficult journey for these first disciples. It is difficult for us today. Jesus wants to teach us his way of thinking, acting and encountering the world. But it is not easy for us to embrace his teaching. Good stewards of Jesus’ teachings realize they are on a spiritual journey, and must learn from their experiences of being open and resistant to the Gospel. They realize the need to be liber-ated from those actions that keep them from enjoying a closer friendship with Jesus. What is it in our lives that we need to reform? What keeps us from revealing God’s glory to others?
SECOND COLLECTION
There will be a second collection for the Propagation of the Faith next Sunday. Your prayerful generosity is ap-preciated.

PARISH LIFE
CHRISTIAN SERVICES
WHY A CHILD IS LOVED “A child is loved because he is one’s child: not because he is beautiful, or because he is like this or like that… Not because he thinks as I do, or embodies my dreams. A child is a child: a life generated by us but intended for him,
for his good, for the good of the family, of society, of man-kind as a whole.” (from Pope Francis, General Audience, Feb-ruary 11, 2015. © 2015 Libreria Editrice Vaticana. Used with permission.) Please pray for parents who receive a difficult prenatal diagnosis: May they be comforted by the assurance of God’s loving plan for their child’s life.

Thanks for the Empty Aluminum BEVERAGE Cans!
Thanks to Zore’s Recycling we received $700 for a load of cans collected in the past couple months. This money goes to Catholic Relief Services and is used to help people in need around the world. These people truly appreciate your bever-age can donations!
The green aluminum can collection bins are located between the school and the garage, behind the blue SVdP Collection Box. There is always room for your beverage can donations.
Important Note: The bins are only for beverage cans. We can NOT accept other types of aluminum or other metals or plastic. No pet food cans, pie pans, vegetable cans etc. Please be mindful of this when placing your beverage cans in the bins.
St. Chris “Empty Aluminum Can" coordinator needed: We are looking for a volunteer to keep the St. Chris Empty Aluminum Can bins available to accept donations. The volun-teer responsibilities include checking the bins weekly and transferring donations into the St. Chris can storage area. It only takes about 1/2 hour per week and would be a great family activity! To volunteer please contact Paul Guenin at 317-627-2309 or [email protected].
There will be a "5th Sunday” collection for Saint Vincent de Paul at the doors of the church after all Masses next weekend January 28/29.
Thank you to everyone who helps SVdP with prayers, service and donations!
Scout Sunday We will celebrate Sun, Feb 5th at the 10:30 Mass. All Scouts are encouraged to aend wearing their scout uniforms. Speedway Pack 504 is coordinating minis-tries for that day. Please contact Billy Macleod at [email protected] if your Scout would like to partic-ipate in the service as a reader, greeter, or gift bearer. Please visit us at our table in Emmaus Way after Scout Sunday mass to learn more about Scouting! All scouts are welcome!"
Dear Friends, As you make your way back to the very rear of Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome you will find a beautiful sculpture and window above the Altar of the Chair designed by the baroque artist Gianlorenzo Bernini. An alabaster window depicting the shining Holy Spirit (by tradition not being stained glass as we know it, but carved out of one single piece of alabaster) bursts through a bronze "cloud" of a choir of angels. Once you first see it, your eye always returns to it. This piece is particularly inter-esting because it very clearly depicts a pre-Christian understanding of the manifes-tation of God reconciled with a Christian understanding. When Greek-speaking Jews looked up at the sky (as we still do today) and saw the beautiful sun bursting through, they saw the glory of God bursting through. They even named this phe-nomenon the "doxa," the "glory" of God. They saw this phenomenon as a literal
manifestation of God. When Saint John the Baptist baptized Jesus this very same event took place and God was made
known to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The clouds opened up, the Holy Spirit came down, and God the Father tells us that Jesus is the Son of God. From then on, our Lord brought the Kingdom of God wherever he went: God literally was present. Even though, as the Gospel tells us this week, John was ar-rested (which was probably a scary event for his followers), his mission of repentance and hope in God was not merely carried on, but fulfilled by Jesus’ life and ministry, which continues to this day. God burst through the Heavens to meet his people and continues to do so.
Next time you see the sun bursting through the clouds, I urge all of you to re-member that it is a sign of God’s constant presence among us. His Kingdom is at hand. In Christ, Father Matt
