In the Gospel today, Jesus continues his healing ministry by curing a leper. Who are those who are considered “unclean” in our society today? Who are those that must remain separated from the community? They might be those coming out of jails, or those suffering from mental illness. They might be suffering from a disease that we fear - like Ebola or AIDS. They might be undocumented immigrants who fear that their families might be deported and torn apart. They might be the poor just struggling to keep their lives together. How can we continue the ministry of Jesus today by reaching out to those who feel rejected and cast out of society?

nuestra sociedad consideramos “impuros” en la actualidad? ¿Quiénes son aquellos que deben permanecer separados de la comunidad? Puede que sean aquellos que están saliendo de la cárcel, o aquellos sufriendo por una enfermedad mental. Puede que estén sufriendo por una enfermedad que nosotros tememos - como el Ébola o el SIDA. Puede que sean inmigrantes indocumentados que temen que sus familias puedan ser deportadas y desechas. Puede que sean los pobres luchando por salir adelante ¿Cómo podemos continuar con el ministerio de Jesús hoy acercándonos a aquellos que se sienten rechazados y alejados de la sociedad?

SUNDAY FEbRUARY 11th - SCOUT SUNDAY 11:00am Mass A Scout is Reverent - We would like all Santa Cruz scouts (Cub Weblos, Boy, Venture, American Heritage, Girl Scouts, St. Peter Claver, Squires, Campfire, Catholic Daughters of America, etc.) as well as all adult scout leaders to attend Mass together to celebrate Scout Sunday. We are asking all scouts to come at least 10-15 minutes early, in uniform, for the 11:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, February 11th. There will be seats reserved for all scouts to sit together up near the front of the church. We also will have patches for the scouts and will take a scout Sunday picture after Mass is over.

LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR/CARTA DE NUESTRO PARROCODear parishioners,The holy season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday of this week. The forty days of Lent are an opportunity to advance in holiness by practicing prayer, fasting and almsgiving.
As we receive the blessed ashes we will hear the words addressed personally to us: “Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” These words are taken from the Book of Genesis (3:19). The Lord God first spoke to Adam and Eve as they left the Garden of Eden. They kept these words as a treasure and transmitted them from one generation to another until they were recorded in the pages of the Holy Bible. We too, are encouraged to keep these words close to our hearts. The phrase “Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return” is a continual reminder that the world as we know it is passing and that as we fix our attention and our hope on the life of faith in God then we shall be directed in a safe path to the world that will never pass away.
May you and your loved ones live a holy Lent so that the blessings of this season will rest in your hearts and bear the fruits of holiness.

Queridos Feligreses,La temporada Santa de Cuaresma comienza el Miércoles de Ceniza en esta semana. Los 40 días de Cuaresma son una oportunidad para avanzar en santidad mediante la práctica de la oración, el ayuno y la limosna.
Al recibir las cenizas bendecidas escucharemos las palabras dirigidas personalmente a nosotros: “Recuerda que eres polvo, y al polvo volverás.” Estas palabras son tomadas del libro de Génesis (3:19). El
Señor Dios les habló por primera vez a Adán y a Eva cuando salieron del jardín del Edén. Guardaron estas palabras como un tesoro y las transmitieron de una generación a otra hasta que fueron grabadas en las páginas de la Santa Biblia. Nosotros también nos animamos a mantener estas palabras cerca de nuestros corazones. La frase “Recuerda que eres polvo, y al polvo volverás” es un recordatorio continuo de que el mundo, como lo conocemos, está pasando y que, al fijar nuestra atención y nuestra esperanza en la vida de fe

Many thanks to all who helped to make DCYC possible for the 53 youth and 16 chaperones who were able to join us this year. We had an amaz-ing weekend praising, worshiping, praying and strengthening our relation-ships with Christ! Please join us in praying that we continue to grow in our faith and help build our parish community here at Santa Cruz!

We will share the performance at the masses for Holy Week and on Good Friday. We will have several practices beginning the week of Spring Break.
Participating in the Passion will count as service for Confirmation. If you are interested in being part of the Passion this year, please con-tact Alex or Pete in the Youth Ministry Office.
Las preparaciones de la obra de la Pasión han comenzado - Compartiremos la actuación en las Misas durante la semana Santa y el Viernes Santo. Tendremos varias prácticas a partir de la semana de vacaciones en la primavera.

Are you wanting to learn more about our faith? Are you just sitting in your car waiting for your kids to get out of religious education classes? Take that leap of faith because we have something for you. Classes will be offered on Wednesday evenings at 6:45 p.m. in English with Anna Lara in the Knights of Columbus room (PAC301) and in Spanish with Art Lara in room 208 in the Education building.
On Sundays, we will have a Spanish session at 9:45 a.m. in room 208 of the Education Building.
This is open to everyone come join us for this year’s Adult Faith Formation Program. Classes will follow the RE calendar for the year. For more information please contact the RE Office.
