Assalamu Alaikum (May Allah's blessings be upon you).

The manual is designed to teach the basics of Salat - prayer.

Salaam has obtained material from a variety of sources including

BeforeSalaat1. Body, clothes and place of prayer must be clean.

2. Perform Wudu (Ablution).3. Women are required to cover their hair.

4. Face the Qibla, the direction of Mecca.

5. Stand erect, head down, hands at sides, feet evenly

spaced.

6. Recite Iqama (private call to prayer which similar to the

Athan):

Wudu (Ablution)

1. Declare the intention that this act is for the purpose of worship and purity.

2. Wash the hands up to the wrist three times.

3. Rinse out the mouth with water three times.

4. Cleanse the nostrils of the nose by sniffing water into them three times.

5. Wash the whole face three times with both handsfrom the top of the forehead to

the bottom of the chin, from ear to ear.

6. Wash the right arm three times up to the top of the elbow, then wash the left arm.

7. Wipe the whole head from the forehead to the back of the neck one time with a wet

hand.

8. With wet fingers, wipe the inner sides of the ears with the forefingers and their outer

sides with the thumbs.

9. Wipe around the neck with wet hands.

10. Wipe the two feet up to the ankles, three times, beginning with the right foot. (If

shoes and socks or stockings are on and and socks or stockings have been onsince last performing the ablution, it is not four hours, the socks or stockings should

be removed and the feet washed.)

Start with a sincere intention to perform the prayers purely for

the sake of GOD alone

2- TakbirBring hands to ears, palms forward, thumbs

behind earlobes and say:

Allahu Akbar

God is great

3- Al FatihaPlace right hand over left, on your chest look at the ground in front of you

and recite the opening SurahAl Fatiha

A'uudhu billaahi minash shaitaan ar-RajeemBismillaah ar-Rahman ar-Raheem Al hamdu lillaahi rabbil 'alameen Ar-Rahman ar-RaheemMaaliki yaumid DeenIyyaaka na'abudu wa iy yaaka nasta'eenIhdinas siraatal mustaqeemSiraatal ladheena an 'amta' alaihim

Ghairil maghduubi' alaihim waladaaleenAameen

I seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the accursed.In the name of God, the infinitely Compassionate and Merciful.Praise be to God, Lord of all the worlds.The Compassionate, the Merciful.Ruler on the Day of Reckoning.You alone do we worship, and You alone do we ask for help.

Guide us on the straight path,the path of those who have received your grace;not the path of those who have brought down wrath, nor of those whowander astray.Amen.

an additional short selection from the Qur'an after alFatiha.

Allah listens to him who praises Him.

10-Sudjood (Prostrate)Prostrate: Hands on knees, lower slowly to kneeling position; touch

forehead, nose and palms to ground (but not elbows);bend toes so tops of feet face the Qibla.

(Pause:)

Allahu Akbar

God is great.

Glory to my Lord, the Most High

Rise to sitting position, looking at lap. Men turn up heel of

right foot, right toes bent.

Women keep both feet, soles up, under body.

(While rising)say

Allahu Akbar

God is great

then recite this short prayer:

Astaghfir-oolaha Rabbee wa Atoobo Ilaih.

I seek forgiveness of my Lord and seek His repentance

By now you have completed a full Rakat.

Remember that you need to recite a short portion of the Qur'an

after the reciting the Fatiha in the first two Rakats.

At the end of every two rakat remain seated and reciteAt-Tashahhud:

At Tahiyyaatu lilaahi was Salawaatu wat tayibaatuAs Salaamu 'alaika ayyuhan nabiyyu wa rahmatul laahi wabarakaatuh As Salaamu 'alainaa wa 'alaa 'ebaadillaahis saaliheen,

All greetings, blessings and good acts are from You, my Lord.Greetings to you, O Prophet, and the mercy and blessings of Allah.Peace be unto us, and unto the righteous servants of Allah.

(Hands on knees, raise right forefinger:) Ash hadu allaa ilaah ilallaah

Wa ash hadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhuu wa rasuuluh

I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah.And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger)At the end of any time of prayer (when all rakats have been

completed): Remain seated, reciteAt-Tashahhud, and then recite theSalawat

O Allah, bless our Muhammad and the people of Muhammad;As you have blessed Abraham and the people of Abraham.Surely you are the Praiseworthy, the Glorious.

Alaahumma baarik 'ala Muhammadin wa 'alaa ali Muhammadin

Kamaa baarakta 'alaa Ibraaheema wa 'alaa ali IbraaheemaInnaka hameedun Majeed

O Allah, be gracious unto Muhammad and the people of Muhammad;As you were gracious unto Abraham and the people of Abraham.Surely you are the Praiseworthy, the Glorious.

your good deeds), then the left (toward the angel

recording your wrongful deeds); say each time:

Surah AlIkhlas

Qul huwal lahu ahad.

Allah hus-samad.

Lam yalid walam yulad.

Walam yakul-lahu Kufuwan ahad.

He is Allah, the only one.

Allah helps and does not need help.

He does not produce a child, and He

Was not born of anyone.

There is no one equal to Him.

Surah Al Falaq

Qul A'uzubi rab-bil falaq.

Min shar-rima Khalaq.

Wa min shar-ri ghasibin iza waquab.

Wa min shar-rin naf-fathati fil uqad.

Wa min shar-ri hasidin i za hasad.

I seek refuge in the Lord of the dawn,

from the evil of all that He has created,

and from the evil of the darkness of night when it falls,

and from the evil of those (charmers) who blow into knots.

And from the evil of the envier when he envies.

Surah AlNas

Qul A'uzubi rab-bin nas

Malikin nas. Ila hin-nas.

Min shar-ril waswa sil khan-nas.

Allazi yuwaswisu fee sudu rin-nas.

Minal jin-nati wan-nas.

I seek refuge in the Sustainer of Mankind,

the Owner of Mankind, Lord of Mankind.

From the evil of the sneaking whisperer.

Who whispers in the hearts of Mankind.

(Whether he be) from among Jinns or Mankind.

SurahAl Fiil

Alam tara kayfa fa-'alaRabbuka bi-As-haabil Fiil.Alam yaj-al kaydahum fii tazliil.Wa'arsala alayhim tayran abaabiil,Tarmiihim-bi-hijaaratim-min-sijjiil.Faja-alahum ka-asfim-ma'-kuul.

Hast thou not seen how thy Lord dealt with the owners of the Elephant?

Did He not bring their stratagem to naught,

And send against them swarms of flying creatures,

Which pelted them with stones of baked clay,

And made them like green crops devoured (by cattle)?

Li-iilaafi Qurayshin,

Iilaafihim rihlatash-shi-taa-i was-sayf,

Fal-ya'buduun Rabba haa zal'Bayt,

Allazii 'at-amahum-min-juu-inw-wa

aamanahum-min khawf.

For the taming of Qureysh,

For their taming (We cause) the caravans to set forthin winter and summer.

So let them worship the Lord of this House

Who hath fed them against hunger.

And hath made them safe from fear.

SurahAl Maa-uun

Ara-aytallthii yukathibu bid-Dinn. Fa-thaalikallazii yadu'-'ul-yatiim,Wa laa yahuddu 'alaa ta'aamil-miskiin. Fa-waylul'lil-musalliin.

Allathiina hum an-salaati-him saahuun, Allathiina hum yuraa-uuna, Wa yamna-uunal Maa-uun.

Hast thou observed with him who belieth religion?

That is he who repelleth the orphan?And urgeth not the feeding of the needy.

Ah, woe unto worshipers

Who are heedless of their prayer;

Who would be seen (at worship) Yet refuse small kindnesses!
