FIRST READING

From the Acts of the Apostles The whole community remained faithful to the teaching of the apostles, to the brotherhood, to the breaking of bread and to the prayers. The many miracles and signs worked through the apostles made a deep impression on everyone. The faithful all lived together and owned everything in common; they sold their goods and possessions and shared out the proceeds among themselves according to what each one needed. They went as a body to the Temple every day but met in their houses for the breaking of bread; they shared their food gladly and generously; they praised God and were looked up to by everyone. Day by day the Lord added to their community those destined to be saved.

PSALM

R. Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, his love is everlasting..\ Let the sons of Israel say: 'His love has no end.' Let the sons of Aaron say: 'His love has no end.' Let those who fear the Lord say: 'His love has no end.' R. I was thrust, thrust down and falling but the Lord was my helper. The Lord is my strength and my song; he was my saviour. There are shouts of joy and victory in the tents of the just. R.

The stone which the builders rejected has become the corner stone. This is the work of the Lord, a marvel in our eyes. This day was made by the Lord; we rejoice and are glad. R.

SECOND READING

From the First Letter of St Peter Blessed be God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy has given us a new birth as his sons, by raising Jesus Christ from the dead, so that we have a sure hope and the promise of an inheritance that can never be spoilt or soiled and never fade away, because it is being kept for you in the heavens. Through your faith, God's power will guard you until the salvation which had been prepared is revealed at the end of time. This is a cause of great joy for you, even though you may for a short time have to bear being plagued by all sorts of trials; so that, when Jesus Christ is revealed, your faith will have been tested and proved like gold - only it is more precious than gold, which is corruptible even though it bears testing by fire - and then you will have praise and glory and honour. You did not see him, yet you love him; and still without seeing him, you are already filled with a joy so glorious that it cannot be described, because you believe; and you are sure of the end to which your faith looks forward, that is, the salvation of your souls.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

Alleluia, alleluia! You believe in me, Thomas, because you have seen me; happy those who have not seen me, but still believe!. Alleluia!

GOSPEL

From the Gospel of John In the evening of that same day, the first day of the week, the doors were closed in the room where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews. Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them, 'Peace be with you,' and showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy when they saw the Lord, and he said to them again, :'Peace be with you.

'As the Father sent me, so am I sending you.'

After saying this he breathed on them and said:

'Receive the Holy Spirit. For those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven; for those whose sins you retain, they are retained.'

Thomas, called the Twin, who was one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. When the disciples said, 'We have seen the Lord,' he answered, 'Unless I see the holes that the nails made in his hands and can put my finger into his side, I refuse to believe.' Eight days later the disciples were in the house again and Thomas was with them. The doors were closed, but Jesus came in and stood among them. 'Peace be with you,' he said. Then he spoke to Thomas, 'Put your finger here; look, here are my hands. Give me your hand; put it into my side. Doubt no longer but believe.' Thomas replied, 'My Lord and my God!' Jesus said to him:

'You believe because you can see me, Happy are those who have not seen and yet believe.'

There were many other signs that Jesus worked and the disciples saw, but they are not recorded in this book. These are recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing

this you may have life through his name.

Intercessions For the Church – that our faith communities be places of goodwill, devoted to teaching, breaking of bread, fellowship, prayer, and service to those in need…. Lord, in your mercy… Hear our prayer For the world which is fighting the Covid-19 pandemic – that the deep challenges the world is facing bring about a sense of goodwill among peoples and a deepening awareness of the spiritual dimensions of life….. Lord, in your mercy. For our nation’s leaders – that they may show integrity in the way they live, be wise in their decision making, and act in the best interests of the people, always having appropriate concern for the poor and vulnerable of our nation….. Lord, in your mercy. For parents who do not have bread for their children – that this suffering be ended, that people’s generosity will flow and political structures be renewed so that all mothers will have sufficient food for their children….. Lord, in your mercy. For people who are disturbed or anxious and without peace in their life – that with open hearts, they welcome the Gospel of Jesus’ resurrection and are healed by the words ‘Peace be with you.’….. Lord, in your mercy. For all who have died; May they live forever with Christ in the glory of the resurrection. We remember especially … ….. Lord, in your mercy.

PRAYER IN THIS CRISIS

Almighty and all-merciful God, lover of the human race, healer of all our wounds, in whom there is no shadow of death, save us in this time of crisis; grant wisdom and courage to our leaders; watch over all medical people as they tend the sick and work for a cure; stir in us a sense of solidarity beyond all isolation; if our doors are closed, let our hearts be open. By the power of your love destroy the virus

of fear, that hope may never die and the light of Easter, the triumph of life, may shine upon us and the whole world. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Holy Mary, health of the sick, pray for us. St Joseph, guardian of us all, pray for us.

Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

SANCTIFYING SUNDAY

New Office Hours Monday to Friday

9.00am to 1.00pm

Like every other “business”, under Queensland legislation, if our staff can work from home then they must. While some work needs to be carried out on site, our wonderful women can do some of their work from home. To enable this, we have begun moving them home. Visiting our office is not an essential activity BUT we are open if you need support, want Masses offered for loved ones, or need to drop something in to us. Phones are answered 24/7.

SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER

WHAT NEXT?

God was talking to one of his angels and said, “Do you know what I have just done? I’ve just created a 24-hour period of alternating light and darkness on Earth. Isn’t that great?” The angel said, “Yes, but what will you do now?” God said, “I think I’ll call it a day.” ©LPi

The Pastor’s Pen Thank you for all the wonderful feedback about our Easter celebrations online. It has been very uplifting for both Fr V and me to receive so many expressions of thanks and prayers. Please know that we have heard them all. A big thanks to Srs Nina, Rita and Angela for their constant support and presence at our Masses. It is great to have a congregation, if only three people, and it is good to know that we are supporting our Religious in their spiritual lives. This Tuesday, 21 April, all Parishes and Priests in the Diocese will offer a special Mass for the Pandemic. Bishop Tim Harris will preside at the 10am Mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral and would like to invite the Diocese to join him via the Live Stream. This Mass will be streamed on the Sacred Heart Cathedral YouTube Channel www.youtube.com/user/SacredHeartCathedral TSV and the Diocesan Facebook page – www.facebook.com/tsvdiocese. We will be streaming our own Mass at 5.30pm, preceded by the Rosary at 5.15pm. This Sunday is Divine Mercy Sunday. At 3.00pm we will be livestreaming an hour of devotions. A participation guide can be downloaded from the front page of our website.

A reminder, please, that names for the deceased, need to be in to the parish office by Wednesday noon. Our print run happens a day earlier now, so that this newsletter can be distributed ahead of Masses, both in print and online. This week, I will install a letter slot to the left of the front door connected to a lock box. You will be able to drop any Mass intentions, planned giving, or other envelopes through this slot and know that it is safe. Please pray for all of our school communities this week. This next term, as you all know, is beginning in a most unusual way, with some students attending school out of necessity and some students learning on line. This will not be without its challenges for staff, students and families. Thank you to those who have shared some photos with me of their prayer at home, whether in the backyard surrounded by cane or in their lounge room with candles lit. I would love to see how you are connecting to the parish from your own homes. If you do take a snap, please send it through to the parish office at the email address on the front page or send it to the parish via messenger on Facebook. Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
