The Pre-Prep program is the first possible entry point to our Townsville Grammar School community.

The Pre-Prep program is offered at the Early Education Centres at our Annandale and North Shore Junior School Campuses. The Centres provide a secure, caring and structured environment that is values-based, with the focus on play-based learning and the building of respectful relationships.

Our Early Education Centres are led by our Director of Early Education and managed by university qualified Teachers, supported by Diploma level Educators. The learning program is designed to help children begin their educational journey by developing cognitive, physical and social abilities to their full potential.

Designed specifically for four year olds, the Pre-Prep program is structured to prepare children for a confident

transition to the Prep Year.

The program includes age-appropriate challenges and positive learning experiences. It aims to instil a love of and respect for our environment, to value and respect diversity and difference, and to promote positive wellbeing and self-esteem.

Our Early Education Centres have an open door policy, where parents are strongly encouraged to become engaged and involved in their child’s learning community. Visit our website for more information on our Early Education Centres, our Pre-Prep program and our policies and statements.

WHEN CAN WE START?

Designed specifically for four year olds, the Pre-Prep program is structured to prepare children for a confident transition to the Prep Year.

Our Prep-Prep program values the theory of learning through play, where children can parallel play and work in small groups to develop social skills, mature emotionally and gain the confidence to engage in new experiences and environments. Play helps young brains develop, it helps with the development of language and communication skills and provides real opportunities for children to learn to make sense of the world around them.

Our Early Education Centres are values-based environments, and therefore, we are very focused on building respectful relationships and community. This provides our children with a positive learning environment, and leads to each child feeling valued and appreciated with a genuine sense of belonging.

Townsville Grammar School offers Pre-Prep programs in our Early Education

Centres at the Annandale and North Shore Campuses.

This is an added advantage in preparing children for the transition to Prep, the beginning of their formal schooling journey.

Our Pre-Prep classes often visit the Junior School Campuses to use the facilities, learn with specialist teachers, and join in with School events and celebrations. This sense of familiarity and inclusion builds confidence and fosters a sense of aspiration to move to the Junior School.

You are welcome to arrange a personal tour, or join in the weekly scheduled tours that are available at both of our Early Education Centres.

The learning and development areas describe the knowledge, skills and dispositions that children explore during the kindergarten year:

IDENTITYChildren build a strong sense of identity through connections with their families, peers, teachers and communities.

CONNECTEDNESSChildren are developing a sense of connectedness to their world. This connectedness helps them relate to the values, traditions and practices of their families, kindergartens, communities and the wider world. It supports them to learn about the interconnectedness of people and environments.

WELLBEINGImportant aspects of wellbeing include children’s physical and mental health, personal safety and successful social functioning. Wellbeing is linked with resilience, providing children with the ability to manage change and respond to challenges. A strong sense of wellbeing requires positive, supportive and trusting relationships, which build children’s confidence and optimism.

ACTIVE LEARNINGActive learning helps children to build positive dispositions and approaches towards learning. It encourages increasing confidence, engagement and involvement in learning and the development of curiosity, problem-solving, creative thinking and investigation processes.

COMMUNICATINGThe foundation for children becoming effective citizens is their development of language, literacy and numeracy. Exploring and engaging with literacy through reading, viewing, listening, writing, speaking and creating supports a child to become an effective communicator. Numeracy is the capacity, confidence and disposition to use mathematics in everyday situations.

The Pre-Prep program is designed specifically for four year olds. The program is delivered in our Early Education Centres, located at our two Junior School Campuses at Annandale and North Shore.
