STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT FOR THE WORD In today’s Gospel, the disciples suggest that Jesus disperse the crowd so that they might individually seek food and lodging. The miracle of the feeding of the five thousand is Jesus’ powerful reminder that when we share our gifts in His name there is always more than enough!

SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY BODY & BLOOD OF CHRIST—JUNE 23, 2019

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi): This Sunday the Church celebrates the Feast of Corpus Christi. This feast gives us an occasion to learn more about the importance and value of the “Real Presence” so that we may appreciate it better and receive maximum benefit from the Sacra-ment. Let us appreciate the “Real Presence” of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist, by receiving Him with true repentance for our sins, due preparation and reverence and spending time adoring him in the Blessed Sacrament. Let us be Christ-bearers and conveyers. By receiving Holy Communion, we become Christ-bearers as Mary was, with the duty of conveying Christ to others at home and in the workplace, through love, mercy, forgiveness and humble and sacrificial service. Let us offer our lives on the altar along with

Jesus’ sacrifice, asking pardon for our sins, expressing gratitude for the blessings we have received and presenting our needs and petitions on the altar and by receiving him with due preparation in Holy Communion The Blessing Cup: Leonardo da Vinci was 43 years old when the Duke of Milan asked him to paint the Last Supper. He worked on it slowly and with meticulous attention to detail. He spent much time making the cup that Jesus held as beau-tiful as possible. After three years he was ready to show it, and he called a friend to come and see it. He said, “Look at it and give me your opinion.” The friend said, “It is wonderful. The cup is so real I cannot take my eyes of it!” Immediate-ly, Leonardo took a brush and drew it across the sparkling cup. He exclaimed as he did so: “Nothing shall detract from the figure of Christ!” Christ must be the primary focus of a Christian’s life. Man of Convictions and Truth: Church celebrates the Feast of St Thomas More on June 22nd. St. Thomas More is described as “a man for all seasons”. He was born in 1477 in England. Thomas was elected to Parliament at 26, then be-come a member of King Henry VIII’s Privy Council, and in 1529 was made Lord Chancellor of England. But none of these honors and responsibilities lessened his interest in his own home and the Christian education of his children. Even as Chancellor he continued to serve Mass in his parish church, to sing in the choir, and to walk in pilgrimages and pro-cessions. He was a man of inflexible character; he esteemed truth, justice and faithfulness to God’s law and his Church far higher than any worldly honor, popularity or momentary reward. When Rome denied Henry VIII’s request for annul-ment he was furious and had a subservient Parliament pass a new succession law that proclaimed him head of the Church of England. Thomas resigned his chancellorship in protest and prepared himself and his family for the conse-quences. For his refusal to take the required new oath More was imprisoned in 1534 and on May 7, 1535 More was dragged to trial, charged with treason for failing to take the oath and facing death as a common criminal by partial hang-ing and thereafter being drawn and quartered. Thomas More was beautified in 1886 and was canonized in 1935. He is being declared patron of political leaders. Appeal to God: A little boy wanted $100 badly and prayed for two weeks but nothing happened. Then he decided to write a letter to the Lord requesting the $100. When the postal authorities received the letter addressed to the Lord, USA, they decided to send it to the White House so the President could have a look at it. The President was so impressed, touched, and amused that he instructed his secretary to send the little boy a $5.00 bill, as this would appear to be a lot of money to a little boy. The little boy was delighted with the $5.00 and sat down to write a thank-you note to the Lord. He wrote: "Dear Lord, thank you very much for sending me the money. However, I noticed that for some reason you had to send it through Washington, DC and those jerks deducted 95%." God’s blessings, Fr. Suneesh Mathew
