STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT FOR THE WORD When Jesus asked the Samarian woman for a drink of water, He opened the door for a life-changing relationship with Him. Scripture says her testimony drew many others to Him as well. We, too, must be ready to respond whenever and wherever the Lord speaks to us and be prepared for it to change our lives!

THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT—MARCH 15, 2020

Living Water: Gandhi, proved to the whole world that a person can go without food for a long, long time – for weeks – but water is something else. I don’t know how long someone can live without water, but it isn’t very long. A baby who can’t keep down fluids will dehydrate and die in just a few days. Adults last only slightly longer. The only life-sustaining substance that we need more frequently than water is air. Water, then, is essential to life. In one sense, water is life. Where there is no water, there is no life. Cactuses and camels and gnarled trees and grasses of the desert can adapt to conditions of low water, but there isn’t any living thing on this earth that can adapt to no water. “Water is life.” It’s no wonder that Jesus turned water and thirst into spiritual teachings as he sat there by Jacob’s well, that

ancient and sacred place for quenching thirst. In the Gospel, an unclean and outcast Samaritan woman is given an oppor-tunity to receive the living water. Jesus awakened in the woman at the well a thirst for the wholeness and integrity which she had lost, a thirst which he had come to satisfy. This Gospel passage also gives us Jesus’ revelation about himself as the Source of Living Water and teaches us that we need the grace of Jesus Christ for eternal life because he is that life-giving water.

Many Thanks: Heartfelt thanks to our Fish King Danny Triplett for his wonderful leadership with our fund raisings. We had a great Reverse Raffle Dinner and have made a profit of $12,386.85 for the parish. Thanks for the wonderful team work. Our sincere thanks to the most efficient Stephanie Oller, Bruce Tucker, Rita Jacobs, Jeanette Ebelhar, Mary Kit-tinger, Catie Warren, Dale Meserve, Denise Pace, Robin Tucker and Lindsay Roby who make up the Fundraising Com-mittee along with Danny Triplett. Thanks to our wonderful Men’s Club, Penny Blandford and all the families finvolved with Parent Tuition Supplement and others that helped.

Patron of Ireland: St. Patrick was born in Britain to wealthy parents in 381. At the age of 16, Patrick was taken prison-er by a group of Irish raiders who were attacking his family’s estate. They transported him to Ireland where he spent six years in captivity. During this time, he worked as a shepherd, outdoors and away from people. Lonely and afraid, he turned to his religion for solace, becoming a devout Christian. After more than six years as a prisoner, Patrick escaped. Patrick walked nearly 200 miles from County Mayo, where it is believed he was held, to the Irish coast. After escaping to Britain, Patrick reported that he experienced a revelation—an angel in a dream tells him to return to Ireland as a mis-sionary. After his ordination as a priest, he was sent to Ireland with a dual mission: to minister to Christians already liv-ing in Ireland and to begin to convert the Irish. Patrick spent 7 years in the zealous evangelization. He and his compan-ions were thrown into prison numerous times and even threatened with death, but in the end his success was astounding, chiefs and common people coming into the fold by the thousands. Humble, yet courageous, Patrick’s determination to accept suffering and success with equal candor guided him in wining most of Ireland for Christ. By the time he died in 461 he had established the church in Ireland on a truly solid foundation. As we honor this great saint on the 17th of this month we seek his intercession that we too become true evangelizers for Christ in our every day life.

God is Watching: The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, and posted on the apple tray: "Take only ONE. God is watch-ing." Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies. A child had written a note, "Take all you want. God is watching the apples.

God's blessings, Fr. Suneesh Mathew
