  • PRECESION AGRICULTUREMaria MehmoodLS1225204Tomorrow's Technology . . .. . . For Todays Farmers

  • IntroductionWhat is Precision Agriculture?

Also called Site Specific Farming or Satellite Farming

The different parts of a field have different requirements and different qualities so the same type of fertilizer or pesticide should not be applied to the whole field

Use GNSS to improve farming methods and increase production

  • IntroductionWhy Precision Agriculture?

    Agriculture Challenges:

-Rise in the demand of crop:Population increaseChemical industry diversificationBio-fuel demand

-Limited Resources:Limited increase of the cultivable landWater shortageEnergy crises

  • IntroductionWhy Precision Agriculture?

    Precision Agriculture Benefits:

    -Provides:Increased YieldBetter managementAccurate predictions

    -Reduces:Chemical PollutionEnergy ConsumptionTime

  • PA TechnologyHow GNSS is used in Farming?

The GNSS technology can be used in:

    Mapping

    Center Pivot Integration

    Yield Monitoring

    Remote Sensing

    Variable Rate Application

  • PA TechnologyMapping

The topographic data is collected by driving a tractor

Collects spatial data with elevation and height data from an RTK GNSS system

Once the data is collected software analyses the data to produce contour, elevation slope and aspect maps

This is useful for designing the farm layout by maximizing the efficiency and controlling corrosion

  • PA TechnologyCenter PivotingIt is a form of overhead sprinkler irrigation in which the equipment rotated around a fixed point to irrigate a circular area centered on the pivot

The GIS software in the computer is used to determine the pivot point

The area of circle and the controls of the pivot are controlled by 3 GNSS Controls

  • PA TechnologyYield Monitoring

GNSS receiver can be used to measure the production of the field

Helps to monitor the production of crop each year and plan better for the next year

The Mass flow sensor is mounted on the top of the grain elevator in the path of the grain

This displacement is directly related to the amount of grain flowing through the clean grain elevator

The volume of the grain moving through the clean grill elevator is measured by the amount of displacement of the impact plate

  • PA TechnologyVariable Rate Applications

This technique allows farmers to treat only the affected areas of a field

GNSS is needed because variable-rate equipment needs to know where to change the rate of the input. It calculates the desired amount of chemical to apply at each moment in time

One of the leading examples of this variable rate application is the use of Agricultural aircrafts

    .

  • Conclusion

Agriculture as all other segments of the industry is under continuous pressure to reduce costs and negative impacts of production on the environment

Agricultural products for both consumption and energy production is rising with a growing world population

The price for RTK-GPS base stations has already been decreasing with the growing volume generated from demand by the agricultural market

The availability of affordable and highly accurate GNSS along with the progress in the development of standards has revived the interest in precision farming applications

  • Conclusion

Many leading vendors are providing easy and affordable solutions for Precision Agriculture nowadays like:

Consequently, precision agriculture has become a cornerstone of sustainable agriculture, since it benefits crops, soils and farmers.

  • THANK YOU QUESTIONS

  • RTKReal Time Kinematic(RTK)satellite navigationis a technique used to enhance the precision of position data derived from satellite-based positioning systems, being usable in conjunction withGPS,GLONASSand/orGalileo. It uses measurements of thephaseof the signalscarrier wave, rather than the information content of the signal, and relies on a single reference station to provide real-time corrections, providing up tocentimeter-levelaccuracy. With reference to GPS in particular, the system is commonly referred to asCarrier-Phase Enhancement, orCPGPS. It has application inland surveyand inhydrographic survey.
