Words of Wisdom by sages,

scientists and other great

personalities

Preface-

Peace education is quite essential for this modern

world; it's the only peace which can give us a holistic

answer for all the burning issues of the world and can

give us a better "way out' for all the problems which

human beings have been facing for ages; but how can

one get peace? By changing the political rulers or by

changing the attitude of people? By having huge

materialistic development or by bringing up

awareness?  By giving education to all or by inculcating

spiritual messages in education?  By changing the

society or by changing our life?

Teachings from Different Religions-

*Major Vedic Teachings--  "Ayamatma Brahman" ( Aatma is

Brahman=consciousness) "Pragyanam Brahman" (true

wisdom is Brahman=consciousness) "Tatwamasi" (That

you are) "Aham Brahmasmi" (I'm the Brahman)

*Isho-panishad-- "Ten tyakten bhunjeetha...;(one

should posses the materials with the sense of non-

attachment and should not be greedy for other's

wealth.)

*Mundako-panishad-- "So-aham" ( "That is me", a

best message of Adwait- Non-Dualism) so how

could one harm others if he/she realizes that

same consciousness is manifested in every being

and everywhere.

*Geeta-- there are mainly 3 teachings in Geeta ;

Karma Yoga (walking on the path of selfless service

with the principle of non-attachment); Gyan Yoga

(having the true wisdom based on Self realization,

not only education based on books); Bhakti Yoga

(feeling very unconditional love with all, no any

Dualism; and complete surrender to God, so ego

gets dissolved gradually)

*Dhammapad-- Buddha says- "Nahi verena

verani sammanteeha Kudachan....(enmity can't

be solved by enmity as one can't put off the fire

by fire)

*Bible-- "the kingdom of God is within you" (God

means joy, peace, eternity...) 'One lump of food

earned by peace is far better than two lumps earned

by hard labor and chasing the wind”

*Koran-- 'helping others is helping god' and 'All

humans are the god's creation, therefore they are

equal'.

* Teachings of Religions for Peace and

Wisdom  *Hindu teachings       - "om dwou shanti, antarikshya

shanti, prithvi shanti, aap shanti, aoushadhaya shanti, vanaspataya shanti, vishwe dewa shanti...." This Vedic text strongly stresses on Peace. Such broadest concept of Veda is the glory not only to Hindus but to every mankind equally.

*- "Yatra Vishwam Bhavatyeka Needam" ( it's the message for "global family" from the Vedas at first.

*- "Satyam Jnanam Anantam Brahma, Anandarupam-amritam yadvibhati, Shantam Shivam Advaitam" (it means-Brahma is truth, He is Wisdom, He is Infinite; He is revealed in endless forms of delight or joy; He is Goodness, He is One.)

*Buddhist teachings—

*- Buddha’s first doctrine gives emphasis to

knowledge, behavior and peace for ultimate

salvation. He was the incarnation of pace and non

violence... he gave us the principle of Aarya

Satya, four noble teachings. -- a) There is grief/sorrow

in this world. b) Every grief has some cause. c) The

grief can be removed. d) There is a 'way' to remove it.

*Islam teachings--  -

'Islam' in Arabic language is “peace” and by name it

supports peace magnificently.

*Christian teachings--  -

" Keep your sword in your sheath because who uses

sword will be killed himself by it. Don’t fight. The time

has come. I will be dedicated myself bearing pains." It

is said that Jesus regained his life after 3 days of his

crucifixion because of above words of peace and

forbearance.

*Tao Te Ching teachings--

"I have just three things to teach: simplicity,

patience, compassion. These three are your greatest

treasures. Simple in actions and thoughts, you return

to the source of your being. Patient with both friends

and enemies, you accord with the way things are.

Compassionate toward yourself, you reconcile all

beings in the world."

Messages of Wisdom/Peace from great Spiritual Masters

*"Almost anything you do will seem insignificant, but it is

very important that you do it. Our actions in the world are

the greatest test of our insights and growth. If we can

apply our spiritual insights to helping the world around us,

then perhaps we are really learning something. If not, our

concepts, ideas, or personal growth are surely suspect."

Mahatma Gandhi

* 'Peace begins with a smile. and "if you can't feed

hundred children in a day feed at least one’

Mother

Teresa

* (Nobel Peace Prize speech 1989 - Ethics for a new millenium. By his holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. An excerpt:)

"We humans are social beings. We come into the world as

the result of others’ actions. We survive here in

dependence on others. Whether we like it or not, there is

hardly a moment of our lives when we do not benefit from

others’ activities. For this reason it is hardly surprising that

most of our happiness arises in the context of our

relationships with others. Nor is it so remarkable that our

greatest joy should come when we are motivated by

concern for others. But that is not all.

We find that not only do altruistic actions bring about

happiness but they also lessen our experience of suffering.

Here I am not suggesting that the individual whose actions

are motivated by the wish to bring others’ happiness

necessarily meets with less misfortune than the one who

does not. Sickness, old age, mishaps of one sort or another

are the same for us all. But the sufferings which undermine

our internal peace: anxiety, doubt, disappointment, these

things are definitely less....

"Swami Vivekananda is the world-teacher who first

brought the message of Vedanta to the Western world.

Vedanta was the message that he delivered at the

Parliament of Religions in 1893. " The way to the end

of suffering is neither multiplication of desires nor their

liquidation, but Self-Knowledge through self-control."

Swami Vivekananda

"Spiritual union enables man to overcome egocentric

desire

and purpose, and hence to eliminate causes of conflict

between man and man."

Maharshi Aurvindo

*"Each individual living organism has it's its own need

and faculty for self-preservation. The education of man

should allow room for training in the perfect

maintenance of his individual life. Otherwise not only

does h become helpless, but his faculty for self-

preservation, the exercise of which gives him a true

enjoyment of life, can atrophy altogether. Generally

speaking in our process of education this training of

how to live our physical life is neglected, therefore we

miss the Shantam, the peace, on which the self- reliant

freedom of a well-organized existence depends."

Ravindranath Tagore-

'' Each human being must perform 3 duties- Physical

duty, Ethical Duty and Spiritual Duty.''

Shivapuri Baba-

Pg 98

A mirror holds all kinds of images and does not get attached with any of

them, so is the religion that neither hinders others nor endures the

obstacle of others.

Pg 105

Butter, present in every portion of milk, is extracted from it, so does the

right attitude (conduct) flourish from the fruits of happiness and grief.

Pg 239

Humanbeings are not born merely for materialistic pleasure, the ultimate

goal of this brith is to possess perfect contentment of the heart.
