What is PET?

PET reflects the use of language in real life, such as understanding signs and announcements, and is accepted by many employers as proof of ability to use English in clerical, secretarial or managerial jobs. It is also widely accepted for use in jobs where spoken English is necessary such as manufacturing, engineering, tourism, retail, etc.

The exam corresponds to the European English level B1. In this level, students must be able to:

• Understand arguments and conversations about common subjects like work, school, hobbies, etc.

• Be able to communicate when traveling.• Express in a simple, but coherent way about

personal interests. Talk about past experiences and personal events. They will also be capable of talking about future plans or giving opinions.

And there are four possible grades for the exam:

Pass with Merit (85% of the total marks)

Pass (70% of the total marks)Narrow fail (50% below the pass mark)
