WELCOME TO THE HOUGHTON WESLEYAN CHURCH. As we gather each week in our separate places for corporate worship, we are blessed to know that God promises to be with us wherever we are. Knowing that God’s Spirit is at work today let us prepare to hear him and to receive from him abundant grace. WEDNESDAY PRAYER VIGIL: Once again this week, you are invited to add your prayers to those of others during our 24-hour Prayer Vigil (Wednesday, 6:30pm – Thursday, 6:30pm). We are asking for particular prayers for the Task Force working on our plan for reopening in the coming months. THURSDAY WORSHIP: Amanda Cox will lead a time of worship music this Thursday, May 28, 6:30pm. You may access the gathering through the regular streaming venues. NEXT SUNDAY MORNING Pastor Wes preaches from Acts 2 as we celebrate Pentecost. We gather for worship online at 10:00 a.m. TOMORROW, MEMORIAL DAY is a day off for our staff. JUNE 7 VOTE: All Covenant Members are invited to vote on leadership and the Community Financial Plan. This year’s voting will take place by mail-in ballots and online. We will be sending out paper ballots May 29 and we will be sending out the online link June 1. CLICK HERE to access the ballot, information on people nominated and a summary of the Community Financial Plan. STAYING CONNECTED: During this unusual time, we want to stay as connected to you as possible. Pastor Wes is sending out a weekly letter on Tuesdays and video on Thursdays. Both are distributed through email and text and may be accessed on the church website (hwchurch.org) and Facebook pages. If you are not receiving these communications and would like to do so, please send your contact information to [email protected]. STEWARDSHIP Received (June 1–Present): $777,427.56 Budgeted (June 1-Present): $788,844.03 MISSION MOMENT – Of the 26 Wesleyan Churches in Egypt, twelve, mainly in Upper Egypt, have been identified with vulnerable folks because of Covid-19 restrictions. In the aim of help an average of 10 families per church with threatened medical, food, and housing concerns your HWC Global Missions Committee has sent from the unused Short Term Missions budget $2064 through Global Partners. Let us pray for the Christian witness of our brothers and sisters in Egypt especially as Ramadan comes to a close. PERSECUTED CHURCH – Related to the above note, let us pray for Christians the world over to be generous, kind and faithful in their witness to Muslim neighbors, friends and enemies during the closing days of Ramadan. Some of the very ones who oppress and even persecute Christian minorities can be touched with the love of Christ as Believers respond to needs and demonstrate Jesus’ love for neighbors.
