Premillennialism Pt. 2: Will Israel Rise Again?

Text: Rom. 11:26

PART A

Premillennialism Pt. 2: Will Israel Rise Again?

“Rapture”: Latin rapere in the Latin Vulgate for the

Greek word harpazo [har-pad'-zo] (G726: “To snatch, or catch away”) in I Thess. 4:17,

which isrendered by the phrase “caught up” in most

English Translations.

Defining Premillennialism

Premillennialism Pt. 2: Will Israel Rise Again?

“Rapture”: Latin rapere in the Latin Vulgate for the

Greek word harpazo [har-pad'-zo] (G726: “To snatch, or catch away”) in I Thess. 4:17,

which isrendered by the phrase “caught up” in most

English Translations.

Premillennialism Pt. 2: Will Israel Rise Again?

Intro Many people today (and in times past) believe

Israel (the Jews) will still play a part in God’s redemptive plan

and will one day trump (or outlast) the church! Most “Premillennialists” believe after the church is raptured away,

the 7 years of tribulation is the time for Israel to return to her former glory, the temple to be rebuilt, getting Jerusalem ready as the throne of Jesus for His 1,000 year reign on earth!

The “Budding Fig Tree” Doctrine – Mt. 24:32-36 (CF: Mk. 13:28; Lk. 21:29-31) They teach that Israel is the “fig tree” that “budded” and so

within a generation Jesus will return, or the Rapture will begin. The problem is in designating what a generation is: most scholars

say it is 40 years, which then ended in 1988. Then they say Israel became a nation with Jerusalem as its capital

city in 1967 (after the 6-Day War), which its 40 years was up in 2007. So they now say it can be any time now!

Rom. 11:26: They use Mt. 24 with Rom. 11 and Jer. 11 to show “All Israel will be saved!”

Premillennialism Pt. 2: Will Israel Rise Again?

Intro

Will Israel rise again as God’s chosen nation and play

some role in end times?

Will Israel rise up as God’s chosen people once again?

Does fleshly Israel hold some trump card over the church when it comes to salvation? (Eph. 5:23; Col. 1:18)

The context deals mainly with the point that Israel has rejected Christ and that they were resting in their biological background.

Rom. 11:2626. and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, "THE DELIVERER WILL COME

FROM ZION, HE WILL REMOVE UNGODLINESS FROM JACOB."

Premillennialism Pt. 2: Will Israel Rise Again?

The Status of Israel

The context in Rom. 11 reveals the following: 11:11: their fall 11:12: their failure 11:15: casting away; from the dead 11:17: branches broken off 11:19: broken off 11:20: broken off 11:21: God spared not the natural branches 11:22: on them that fell, severity

Rom. 10:1 (NKJ)1. Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved.

The context is that Israel had fallen, failed, were cast

away, broken off, were dead and were not spared – Their status before God was not a protected one!

Premillennialism Pt. 2: Will Israel Rise Again?

Understanding Mt. 24-25

To remove the “Budding of the Fig Tree” false doctrine,

one needs to properly understand Mt. 24-25: Jesus was answering 2 questions from Peter, Andrew, James, and

John (Mk. 13:3), who said, “Tell us” in Mt. 24:3: 1st Question: “When will these things happen?” Answered in

24:4-35 2nd Question: “What will be the sign of Your coming, and of

the end of the age?” Answered in 24:36-51 Mt. 24:4: Jesus responded, “See to it that no one misleads

you.” Who? Not people hundreds of years later, but the “you”

refers back to the “us”: Peter, Andrew, James, and John! Mt. 24:33: Throughout the chapter Jesus says “you” and

ends with saying, “When you see all these things…” and says, that “this generation will not pass away until all these things take place” (24:34).

In answering their questions, He said they would see it! Two Events: Destruction of Jerusalem, and Christ’s 2nd

Coming!

Premillennialism Pt. 2: Will Israel Rise Again?

Understanding Mt. 24-25

Divided into 2 sections:

The two sections are separated by a time text – Mt. 24:34: Jesus said, “This generation” would see the fulfillment, so everything discussed up to 24:34 would occur within that “generation.” (Not a generation after 1948!)

Jesus uses the natural phenomenon of the fig tree (24:32) as a lesson in reading the times! (AD 70)

Judgment on Jerusalem Judgment at the End of the World

Preceded by signs (24:5-15) No signs of 2nd Coming (24:36-39)

Can be escaped by flight (24:16) Cannot be escaped (24:42; 25:31)

No personal coming of Christ (24:23) Personal coming of Christ (24:44)

Judgment on earth (24:15) Judgment in Heaven (25:31-46)

To properly understand Mt. 24, one must

distinguish between these 2 judgments!

PART B

Premillennialism Pt. 2: Will Israel Rise Again?

“Rapture”: Latin rapere in the Latin Vulgate for the

Greek word harpazo [har-pad'-zo] (G726: “To snatch, or catch away”) in I Thess. 4:17,

which isrendered by the phrase “caught up” in most

English Translations.

Premillennialism Pt. 2: Will Israel Rise Again?

“Israel” is Saved the Same as the Rest

So if their status of God’s chosen people is removed,

how are they saved?

Mt. 21:43 (Mt. 23:33-38; Lk. 21:20: “Desolate”)43. "Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given

to a people, producing the fruit of it.

Rom. 11:26-27 (Is. 59:20-21; Jer. 31:31-34)26. and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, "THE DELIVERER WILL COME

FROM ZION, HE WILL REMOVE UNGODLINESS FROM JACOB."27. "THIS IS MY COVENANT WITH THEM, WHEN I TAKE AWAY THEIR SINS."

Who was this Deliverer that takes away their sins? It is Jesus (Mt. 1:21; Jn. 1:29)

What is this covenant? It is the gospel (Rom. 1:16-17; Eph. 1:13). Jer. 31:31-34: A “new covenant” unlike their former covenant I Cor. 11:25: The “new covenant” is sealed in Christ’s blood!

Premillennialism Pt. 2: Will Israel Rise Again?

“Israel” is Saved the Same as the RestRom. 11:2525. For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery--so that you will

not be wise in your own estimation--that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in;

How are the Gentiles and Jews saved?

They are all saved the same way, by faith (Rom. 3:29-30)

Acts 15:9: “No distinction” between Jew and Gentile Rom. 9:6-8: True children of God are spiritual Israel! (Not fleshly

Israel)If not fleshly Israel, who are the children of Promise?

Premillennialism Pt. 2: Will Israel Rise Again?

“Israel” is Saved the Same as the Rest

Fleshly Israel is saved the same way as

the Gentiles are – By hearing the gospel,

believing the gospel & being baptized for

forgiveness of sins! (Mk. 16:15-16; Acts 2:38; 22:16; Gal. 3:26-27)

Gal. 3:8-9, 26-29 (Eph. 1:7; Rom. 11:15-24: Grafted in!)

8. The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, "ALL THE NATIONS WILL BE BLESSED IN YOU."

9. So then those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham, the believer.

26. For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.27. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.28. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither

male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.29. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according

to promise. If Jew or Gentile belongs to Christ,

they are Abraham’s seed!

Premillennialism Pt. 2: Will Israel Rise Again?

What About Israel Today?

Even with the Jews rejecting Jesus, it was to them the

gospel was preached first (Rom. 1:16-17) and they can

be saved the same way Gentiles can! Many people watch world events and even make political

moves, all believing Israel as it exists today will still play

a part in God’s planOn May 14, 1948 the establishment of

a Jewish nation was proclaimed!

Premillennialism Pt. 2: Will Israel Rise Again?

What About Israel Today?

Premillennialism Pt. 2: Will Israel Rise Again?

What About Israel Today?Jer. 4:27; 5:18; 30:11; 46:28: Israel would not be

fullydestroyed, but scattered among the nations!Jer. 19:10-11: God also revealed through Jeremiah

thatIsrael would never be a nation again Jewish people will be scattered among the nations, but not ever a

nation as they once were! Jesus said their house was “desolate” and their kingdom

“removed” (Mt. 21:43; 23:33-38)

Jer. 19:10-1110. "Then you are to break the jar in the sight of the men who accompany you11. and say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, "Just so will I break this people and

this city, even as one breaks a potter's vessel, which cannot again be repaired; and they will bury in Topheth because there is no other place for burial.

“All Israel” that will be saved is made up of those that

have obeyed the gospel through faith, been baptized into

Christ for forgiveness of sins, the same as the Gentiles!

Conclusion

Many people today (and in times past) believe Israel (the

Jews) will still play a part in God’s redemptive plan and

will one day trump (or outlast) the church) They misunderstand, misuse, and abuse Mt. 24 & Rom. 11 and a

host of other passages!I Thess. 4:16-18: No “rapture” for Jesus won’t set foot on

the earth again when He returns, and after the resurrection of the dead and alive in Christ, the

wicked will rise and after that the judgment! (Jn. 5:28-29; Acts 1:11; II Pet. 3:10-12)No “2nd chance” to get it right

during a 7 year tribulation period!

Premillennialism Pt. 2: Will Israel Rise Again?

Conclusion Both Jew and Gentile alike are called by the gospel

and saved by faith through grace (Eph. 2:8-9; Gal. 3:8-

9), arecalled Christians (Acts 11:26) and are in the

church! (Eph. 3:6)

I Pet. 2:9-109. But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A

HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

10. for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY.

Now all men must seek to be a part of the church in this

life – God’s chosen people, royal priesthood, and holy nation!
