• Mid-level Budget: $600-$1600• This should be all that’s needed for almost every student
• High Budget: $1600+• This used to be the dividing line between students who could afford premium-level classes or tutoring
• Premium Budget: no limit• When you can afford to buy anything it can be hard to decide. Nice problem to have!
Lower Budget (≈$600)With several hundred dollars to spend, students can afford to buy the AAMC essentials ($200), a set of MCAT prep books (≈$200), and practice tests (≈$200)
• Books: stick with an MCAT prep company, not a publishing company• Practice tests: bundles are a much better deal than a la carte but a la carte does allow mix-and-match

Smart shopping!
Ask key questions before committing to the tutoring:
1. Has my tutor taken the real MCAT? How did they score?2. Does my tutor have teaching experience? How much?3. Can I talk to my tutor before committing?4. What if I change my mind after a few sessions? What’s the refund policy?
Plenty of really amazing tutors work for the big national MCAT class companies, but usually best to look for a place that specializes in tutoring
