Reading Writing Numeracy PE
Assembly 8:50am
Learning Intention – To learn about the letter Yy in the alphabet. Success Criteria – I can say the name and sound for the letter Yy. I can find some things that start with the ‘Yy’ sound. Mini Lessons 1. Phonemic Awareness lesson 11 with Miss Taylor https://youtu.be/XNggVxyEAyU 2. Practise the Alphabet Chart https://youtu.be/N3CUcmQuDXQ
Shared Reading: Watch the Letter Y Introduction with Mrs Mc https://youtu.be/QOSjpxiXE-U
Independent Reading: 4. Read the book: My Y Book *Use Eagle Eye to look at the pictures, then look for high frequency words you know. *Talk about these High Frequency words “Here, is, a, yes, said, look, at, the” *Circle these words in the book. *Read the book 3 times. Use Tracking Tiger. *Colour the pictures. Independent Activity * Letter Y Detectives: Look around your house, find some things that start with the sound y. (You could write a list or take a photo of the things you find - share on Class Dojo.)
Learning Intention – To write a recount about the weekend. Success Criteria – I can use an uppercase letter at the beginning of my sentence, spaces between words and a full stop at the end. Watch this video to help remind you how we write a recount: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8PQ3kMLR4Y
Writing a recount Happy Father's Day! Draw a WOW picture and write a sentence or two about what you did for Father’s Day. What did you buy or make your Dad, Grandparent or carer? Did you have a special meal?
*Share your sentence with an adult. *Draw a picture. *Practice listening for the first sound in each word and any other sounds you can hear in the rest of the words. *Don't forget full stops and spaces.
Warm up - 10 minutes
Counting to 100 Exercise! Have fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TgLtF3PMOc
Activity - Birds on the Wire and Bird Battle Learning Intention - To develop our automatic recall of number facts to 10. Success Criteria - I can say some of the friends of ten. Practice your Friends of Ten. https://youtu.be/ch7KzI3n2Zk Birds on the Wire Use a coat hanger and 10 pegs (like in the photo) to figure out all the ways to make 10. Move the pegs to make different combinations. We call these the parts of ten or friends of ten or number bonds. Eg. 4 and 6 make 10. Record all the combinations you found on the number bonds worksheet below or in your workbook: or 6 + 4 = 10 Now you can use your knowledge of the friends of ten to play Battle of the Birds. 1. Use the Birds on the Wire and start with 5 birds each. 2. Use a block for a dice and put 1, 2 or 3 dots on the faces. You will need 2 faces with 1 dot, 2 faces with 2 dots and 2 faces with 3 dots. 3. Take turns rolling the dice and move that many birds to your end of the wire. 4. Tell your partner the friends of ten you now have on the wire. eg If you rolled a 2, you would take 2 birds from your partner and you would say, “I have 7, you have 3. 7 and 3 are the friends of 10. 5. Take turns rolling the dice, moving your birds and sharing the friends of ten you have made. 6. The winner of the game is the player who ends up with all the birds.
LET THE BATTLE BEGIN :-)
Until these facts become automatic, encourage your child to use the count on strategy rather than the count all strategy to work out how many birds. They know they have 5 blue birds on their side of the wire, so they do not need to count these, rather they should trust the count and just say 5, then count on the pink birds. In the example above where there are 5 blue birds and 2 pink birds, they would start by saying 5 then count on. eg. 5. 6, 7. The work we have done previously on subitising will also come into play during this game. If your child begins to count all of the birds, remind them to subitise and count on.
Week 9 Home Olympics - “Paper Plane Javelin” Event This week we will be doing our fifth event for our Home Olympics. The event is “Paper Plane Javelin”. Watch the video below: https://youtu.be/gIdXCJOCgCk Or read the instructions below: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Gbg8rSoI4YxPyfLpMsRC1Oz8x4FNRWMC-t7pPzRV5vU/edit?usp=sharing Or read the information in your Class Dojo. Upload a video/photo to the PE task on your Class Dojo so Miss Shore can comment on your work. Please remember that videos cannot be longer than 30 seconds.
