Curry, MD Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Baylor College of Medicine Any substance that causes a chemical effect and change in your body and brain There are two different categories: Legal and Illegal Remember, even things that are legal can become ILLEGAL if used improperly Tobacco Alcohol Inhalants Prescription drugs Amphetamines/Methamphetamines Anabolic Steroids Opioids/Narcotics/Pain medications Depressants/Sedatives/Hypnotics Over the Counter (OTCs) Cocaine coke, crack, dope Heroin blow Amphetamines X/Ecstacy, speed, meth, ice Marijuana weed, pot, grass PCP substance P LSD acid Ketamine special k Cigarettes Cigars Chewing tobacco - snuff Hookahs Healthy Lungs vs. a Smokers Lungs Beer Wine Liquor Spirits All of these drinks in these amounts have equivalent amounts of alcohol in them. It doesnt matter if the wine is white or red, dry or sweet, or if the beer is light or regular. Beer ~ 12 oz., Wine Glass ~ 4 oz., 1 Shot ~ 1.5 oz The earlier you drink, the worse you think!!! Doesnt just hurt you Snuffing or Huffing Glue, Paint, Markers, Gas = Brain Damage Asphyxiation (Suffocation) Brain Damage Paralysis Heart attack It is ILLEGAL to use prescriptions drugs if they are not prescribed to YOU by a PHYSICIAN!!! It is ILLEGAL to use them in any way other than prescribed by your doctor Not only is it ILLEGAL but they are DANGEROUS! Xanax, Oxycontin, Vicodin, Lortabs, etc Even when a doctor prescribes them, they should be used carefully and supervised THESE DRUGS ARE NOT HARMLESS They can make you STOP BREATHING Heart stop beating Go into a COMA AND EVEN DIE On Steroids? Side Effects Heart failure enlarged weak heart Skin problems acne, scarring Poor Immune system Bad Infections Osteoporosis weak bones break easily Emotional depression, suicidality, Roid Rage Abnormal sex hormone effects Gynecomastia (men growing breasts) Reproductive organs shrinking (men) Reproductive organs growing (women) Women growing hair in manly places Infertility Over the counter cough syrupOver the counter pain pills Not only can you automatically go to jail if you are caught with them They do not have to be on your person, even if they are in your locker, under your bed, or can be tied to you in any way! Choose your friends wisely: If you are in a car with them or accompanying them and they have drugs, you can be charged also! They are extremely addictive and can ruin lives!!!
