Named after Chief Secretary of South Australia, Sir Henry Ayer.The Eastern Highlands.It runs parallel to the eastern and south eastern coast.It starts from Cape York peninsula in the north to Tasmania in the South.It is also called Great Dividing Range.(It acted as barrier preventing early settlers from crossing over into the interior of the continent.The highest peak Mt, Kosciuszko is located in the Australian Alps, ht= 2,234 mts and is snow capped.Blue mountains, Gregory Range in Queensland and the New England Range in New South Wales are the important ranges. The Eastern Highlands slope steeply towards the east, but more gently on the west.
