National Aspiring Headteacher Development Programme – Preparing for NPQH

This one-year development programme is an exciting professional learning opportunity for experienced school leaders across Wales who wish to become Headteachers in the near future. Completion of this programme is an expectation for all future NPQH applicants. Applications are welcomed from proven senior school leaders who believe that they demonstrate the Professional Standards for Teaching and Leadership and for whom headship is a realistic next step. Applications should be endorsed by your school’s Headteacher or by your line manager following a professional discussion based on a completed Leadership Standards Review (LSR). Teaching Assistants who are leading interventions and support activities are invited to apply. This 4-day programme runs over several months and Teaching Assistants will be guided towards HLTA assessment. The deadline for receiving applications is 10 January 2020. DEVELOPING CREATIVITY ACROSS THE REGION The Lead Creative Schools Scheme is a partnership programme between the Arts Council of Wales and Welsh Government which aims to promote new ways of working in schools by nurturing the creativity of teachers and learners in order to raise attainment. The Sutton Trust - EEF Teaching and Learning Toolkit summarises thousands of pieces of academic research and presents them in a practical,

manageable and robust way.

Share successful practice across the region in regards to key interventions/programmes and impact.

The importance of early intervention classroom practice in regards to literacy and oracy and reducing the gap. REGISTER THROUGH G6.

Invitation to join the ‘Standing Together’ Research Project SUPPORTING CHILDREN’T SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS Is your school looking at improving pupil behaviour and wellbeing? GwE is delighted to support an exciting and important research project looking at ways to reduce bullying and promote wellbeing in KS2 pupils. The ‘Stand Together’ project will be trialling the impact of the Finnish KiVa anti-bullying programme at scale across schools in North Wales and England. KiVA has been shown to be effective in reducing bullying and improving wellbeing in primary school pupils, and has been rolled out in over 90% of Finnish public schools.

Erasmus+ 2020 THIS MAY BE YOUR LAST CHANCE for funded CPD in Finland, Denmark, Romania, Spain, Greece and Poland with more projects to be added. In June 2019 the 10 millionth participant in Erasmus+ took part in a transnational visit. 600,000 people across the UK have taken part in Erasmus+ visits since 2014 and each year they arrange CPD opportunities for 500 teachers in Wales, transitional visits with primary and secondary pupils and coordinated projects with Welsh schools in partnership with schools, teachers and pupils across Europe. Welsh Schools Heritage Initiative The committee of the Welsh Schools Heritage Initiative plan to organise an event celebrating thirty years since its inception. This will be held at The

National Slate Museum, Llanberis (Ystafell Padarn) on July 8th, 2020. Invitations will be issued in the New Year. A representative(s) from all schools in

North Wales who have participated in the competition (including 2019-20) will be invited.

TEEP Open Day - Ysgol Brynrefail FRIDAY, 17 JANUARY 2019 Ysgol Brynrefail has achieved the TEEP accredited status (Teacher Effective Enhancement Programme). This is an SSAT accreditation based on relevant, stimulating and effective teaching and learning. The principals of this teaching model align closely with effective pedagogy principals as stipulated within the new curriculum for Wales.

The Welsh Government’s new programme provides opportunities for Welsh-speaking primary teachers (including teachers in non-permanent roles or those not currently in a post) who wish to teach at secondary school. The pilot programme provides professional development and additional career options for primary teachers. It’s open to all Welsh-speaking

primary teachers with Qualified Teacher Status who would consider teaching through the medium of Welsh at secondary school. If you have a

passion for a subject, or want an opportunity to teach in a secondary school, now is the time for you. Go for it!
