We have recently reviewed some of our school finance procedures and it is clear that we need to keep families better informed of their school account balances. To help do this we have decided that once a month we will send to all families their child’s accounts. These will show items they have been billed for, payments they have made and an overall balance. As we move towards the end of the school year we would like to encourage any parents who are planning to enrol their child at St. Patrick’s to do so as soon as possible. This is especially important for children who are turning five next year. It helps us greatly to be informed as early as possible of enrolments. Enrolment packs can be collected from the school office. We would also like to know if your child will be leaving St. Patrick’s at the end of this year as we want to ensure that we farewell them in the appropriate manner. Steve Wheeler, Principal

November 3rd, 2015 Term 4, Week 4

Catholic Character

Kia ora whanau ma,

It was certainly a busy start to week 4 of the term. It was a fantastic effort by the children, with the majority wearing black clothing in support of the All Black victory on the weekend. We hosted the Wairarapa Times Age and today we feature not only on the front page but also on page 5.

Next on the agenda was the Term 4 school radio show in conjunction with Arrow FM. For this the final show of the year, Mr Day took a group of senior children down to the station itself for the recording. By all accounts they did a fantastic job and you can listen to their show on Thursday morning at 10am or on Saturday afternoon at 4pm. This can be done at www.arrowfm.co.nz or at 92.7FM.

We have recently reviewed some of our school finance procedures and it is clear that we need to keep families better informed of their school account balances. To help do this we have decided that once a month we will send to all families their child’s accounts. These will show items they have been billed for, payments they have made and an overall balance. For families that we have an email address for we will email these out to you and for those that we don’t we will send a paper copy home. This procedure will start from today. A reminder to everyone that you are always able to follow what is happening at school through the range of school blogs that can be found on the school website – www.stpatsmstn.school.nz/classroom-blogs/2015-blogs/ . The blogs include:

Principal’s blog – weekly updates on school events

Sports blog – photos, match reports and information

Class blogs – updates on class activities

On Thursday we will be holding school photographs which this year will include individual, family, class and whole school photographs. The planned timetable is:

8.15 Family photos

9.00 Individual and class photos

10.30 Whole school and staff photo

11.30 Individual and class photos

This week we welcome the following children to St

Patrick’s School. In room 3 – Liberty Jones

Help needed with Maori Language Resources The school has been kindly donated a large number of reading resources written in Te Reo Maori which are a great resource for exposing children to the Maori language. As these are written completely in Maori we would like to place a translation at the back of each book, for the children to use to help learn what the books are about. To enable this to happen we would like to ask for help with the translating. If you are able to help with this please can you speak with either Steve Wheeler or Chris Connor.

Envirospot: This week is Conservation Week and the theme is Healthy Nature Healthy People. As a school our Envirogroup Leaders will clean up our little bit of stream at the Front Gate and classes have continued to mulch our native bush area. Yesterday it was Room 4 and 6s turn. Families are very welcome to come and go through the bush area. So this week consider getting the family outside to a nature area-sea, stream, river, bush or backyard!

Wednesday Walking Bus – This week we are walking from the corner of Essex & Pownall Streets – we walk down Renall St.

If it is cold and wet we will not be walking. From 8.20am on there is supervision and at 8.30am sharp we walk. Great turnout at last weeks Walking Bus with 21 children. One Mum was overheard saying "This is your only opportunity to walk to school." For a lot of children that's very true.

SPORTS NOTICES

Room 12 are hosting this week’s assembly at 9am on Friday. All welcome

Our 2015 school pet day is going to be held on Friday 20th November. In the morning children will be taking part in a range of craft based activities in their classes and syndicates which will have an Advent and Christmas theme as we near these periods of the year. They will need to bring some materials to school for this and a letter will come home later this week explaining what they will need.

All families will have the opportunity to enter the design an ‘Advent Wreath’ competition. This is something that is to be made at home as a family and then brought to school on pet day. The wreaths will be judged during lunch (1-2pm) based on attractiveness and the way the family name is included on the wreath.

From 2pm animals will be judged and will take part in the grand parade. The categories include caged animals, farm animals, cats and dogs. On the day we ask that parents join us from 1pm so that they can view the work the children have completed in the morning, as well as entering the family advent wreath competition. The school PTA will also be running a sausage sizzle for both children and adults to purchase lunch. There will be no school assembly on this day.

‘BreakThrough’ Marriage Workshop

All couples go through periods where their relationship is strained. Stress, sleep-deprivation, demands from family and work can starve your marriage of the positive energy it needs and deserves. Soon, you find yourselves arguing more often, making up with less enthusiasm and becoming someone even you yourself don’t like. If this sounds like you, or someone you love, it’s time to do something about it!

The BreakThrough Workshop is a practical, solution-focused event for all stages of marriage. This workshop will arm you with skills and insights to transform your relationship into the thriving, joy-filled encounter that it is meant to be.

Please Note: There is no couple or group work in this workshop – all activities are individually based and your privacy and confidentiality is strictly respected. You can come with your spouse or on your own.

Venue: Catholic Centre. Date: 11 November. Time: 6pm-9pm

To enroll: Sue Devereux 04 496-1744 [email protected]
