Welcome to the University of Maine at Farmington!

Confirmed students will be able to complete online housing and course planning forms through myCampus.

If you are planning to take Advanced Placement (AP) exams, request that the results be sent to University of Maine at Farm-ington Office of Admission. UMF usually awards class and credit for a score of 3, 4 or 5. We will receive your AP test results in July, and you will be notified of credit earned in early August.

Make sure your high school guidance office has sent your final transcript showing your date of graduation.

Consider attending Summer Experience! You will receive in-formation in the mail in April about this week-long program for students planning to attend UMF. Students live in the residence halls and meet classmates and faculty through participation in a one-credit course. We highly recommend attending!

Watch for your housing and roommate assignment! In addition to providing you with your roommate’s name and contact information, we will send you specific details about the residence hall and room you will have at UMF!

Expect to receive your first semester bill during the early part of the month. Also enclosed will be a billing worksheet to help you calculate the actual amount due as well as information about payment plans.

Respond to invitations to participate in Fall Orientation and make arrangements with the Merrill Center for payment of necessary fall expenses. Bills are due August 15.

Make travel plans to UMF & begin packing. Remember to contact your roommate(s) to coordinate what you will bring. See you at Orientation!

Confirming Your Enrollment | Enclosed in your acceptance packet is the Admission Reply Form – information about completing your enrollment form and paying the $250 enrollment deposit. This deposit, due by May 1st, secures your place in the first year class and will eventually go toward your first semester bill. The deposit can be paid by check, money order, cash or by phone with a credit card. Please note, the expectation is that a student will not confirm at more than one college. If you have questions or concerns about this process, please contact the Office of Admission at 207-778-7050 or [email protected].

Access to MaineStreet | When you applied for admission, you were sent a Student ID number and activation code to set up a MaineStreet account. If you have not set up your account, this information is also listed on your Admission Reply Form. Activating and using this account enables you to access your MaineStreet web portal and your UMF email account. The MaineStreet Portal provides a single point of access to information such as financial aid, checklists for confirmation, billing and even access to your fall schedule once that has been assigned. Your “maine.edu” email address will be used by various departments across campus to contact you.

• Go to http://accounts.maine.edu to activate your account & set up your password

• Go to http://mainestreet.maine.edu and sign in with your username and password

• To check your Farmington email, go to http://gmail.mail.edu and use the same username and password

If you have questions, contact us in the Office of Admission at 207-778-7050.

and click on the “For Parents” link on the black band near the bottom for access to checklists, forms and information.

Financial Aid | To be considered for financial aid at UMF you must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at www.fafsa.gov. UMF’s priority deadline for filing the FAFSA is March 1st so students and their families should file as soon as possible after January 1st of each year. The Financial Aid Office will begin making awards in March. Please keep in mind that you do not have to wait to have your income taxes complete in order to file. It is possible to complete the form with estimated information based on last year’s return. It is better to have met the deadline with estimated information (you will be requested to update it later on) than to miss the priority deadline. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact Merrill Center at 207-778-7100.

Accepted Student Days | Accepted students will receive an invitation to attend an Accepted Student Day. ASDs offer a full-day, up-close look at UMF. These programs provide you with an opportunity to meet some of our faculty, sit in on a class, tour the campus, and see as many of the residence halls as you like. You will also enjoy lunch in the dining hall and have a chance to connect with representatives of various clubs, organizations and athletic teams here on campus. If you bring parents and/or other family members with you (and we encourage you to do so) there is a full day planned for them that is loaded with helpful information. If necessary and set up in advance, placement testing may also be arranged on these days. We highly recommend attending an Accepted Student Day!

Campus Housing | Campus housing information will be available on myCampus after May 1st to all students who have paid their $250 enrollment deposit. You will have the opportunity to select from a variety of different options and will receive your housing assignment in early July. At that time you will learn where you will be living and who your roommate(s) will be as well as their contact information. If you want to request a specific roommate you must both choose each other on the housing forms. Student Life will make every effort to meet requests but must honor them on an as received basis. Campus Housing contracts are for a full year and require a meal plan selection. There are a variety of options and we are certain that you will find the plan that works best for you.

Placement Testing | The UMF Learning Assistance Center administers placement tests in mathematics and writing to incoming students. Test results assist us in accurately placing you in appropriate level courses in these disciplines.

Students who score 500 or above on the writing portion of the SAT Writing Test are exempt from the writing placement test. Students scoring 490 or above on the math section of the SAT are exempt from the mathematics placement test. These test scores must be submitted to UMF as part of your high school transcript or directly from the College Board.

Placement tests, if required, must be taken prior to signing up for classes at UMF! You may schedule an appointment to test by calling UMF’s Testing Services at 778-7666. If you test at a location other than on our campus, you will need to specify which tests to take. For mathematics, we require both the Accuplacer Arithmetic and Elementary Algebra; the writing requires the WritePlacer essay. We will not accept the Sentence Skills for placement.

If placement testing results indicate the need for it, students may be required to take developmental coursework in math and/or writing in their first year at the University of Maine at Farmington.

Immunization Requirements | Before you can begin classes here at UMF you will need to provide records of immunization to Application Processing Center, University of Maine System, P.O. Box 412, Bangor, ME 04402-0412. You will need to send them the following:

A signed statement from a health official who administered vaccines for:> Tetanus/Diphtheria in the past 10 years > Two Measles/Mumps/Rubella after your first birthday and documentation of a 2nd booster OR

A secondary school health record showing the above OR

Copies of laboratory evidence of immunity for the above

A physical is NOT required to attend Farmington, but a sports physical IS required if you plan to participate in intercollegiate or club sports at UMF.

Accessing myCampus | Once you have confirmed at UMF, you will have access to myCampus, which is a UMF web portal. Using the same sign-in and password that you use for MaineStreet, you will find UMF-specific information about living on campus, registering for classes and more. myCampus will be your home base for the next four years at UMF.

Merrill Center Student Services | Much of the support for UMF students is housed in the Merrill Center. Staff members assist students with processes and policies related to student accounts (bills); financial aid; registration; work study and other student employment; AP and college course transcript processing, and more. The Merrill Center is open 9am-4pm Monday – Friday and is located on the first floor of Merrill Hall. They can be reached at 207-778-7100.

Move-In Day & New Student Orientation | The University of Maine Farming-ton organizes a Move-In Day and New Student Orientation to assist you in get-ting acquainted with the people, offices, and resources available here. In Fall 2015, Orientation begins Saturday, August 29, and classes begin Wednesday, Sept. 2.

Summer Experience: A week-long program where you will live on campus and have the opportunity to take a college “test run” of sorts. You will be enrolled in a 1 credit course that will give you great insight into the liberal arts and the UMF faculty. It will also be a great opportunity to meet some of your classmates and get acquainted before move in day. Summer Experience is an optional program but has proven year after year to be a great academic and social introduction to Farmington. You will receive information about this program by mail in April as well as at Accepted Student Days.
