Preparing young people with and without learning difficulties for adulthood

Foundation Learning

Teaching and support staff make effective use of the information on learners’ starting points secured at induction to plan learning programmes that take good account of learners’ interests, hobbies, aspirations for the future, and of any travel or mobility difficulties.

Highly effective partnerships between the college and the local authority, employers and voluntary sector organisations ensure that learners take up a broad range of appropriate work experience.

Learning support assistants work well with teachers to provide learners with an appropriate level of support that ensures the large majority of learners excel.

In the college’s latest Ofsted inspection, its provision for learners with high needs was graded as Good.

“Arrangements to manage the transition of learners from school to college are effective...”

“Learners’ behaviour is good and managed well by staff...”

“Learners develop useful skills through activities designed to meet their needs and interests...”

Top college in South Essex for Special Educational Needs & Disability

Since the college introduced its Foundation Learning provision there has been a continual growth in the number of students on its courses, seeing over 1,000 enrol. We have built a strong reputation as the leading college in South Essex for the delivery of courses preparing young people with and without learning difficulties for adulthood, to ultimately improve their life opportunities.

Diverse Community

Alongside our work with students with learning difficulties, we also support a high number of mainstream students, establishing a diverse community of young people on a campus that is both safe and secure for all.

Meeting the Needs of the Community

Having increased access to education for young people with and without learning difficulties, Seevic has placed itself at the heart of the community ensuring local people have the ideal curriculum offer to get the best possible life chances.

Working very closely with local special and mainstream schools, we continue to listen to the needs of our students to guarantee a smooth transition into, and throughout, college.

In addition to this, four local SEND schools have day placements with us to jointly support and develop their young people.

Helping you Succeed

Our Foundation Learning department delivers supported learning to help all students operate confidently and independently in education, work and everyday life.
