PREPARE YOUR DOCUMENTS
Carefully
Be sure to conform to the standard format: 12 pt Times Roman or Courier, 1” margins,
MLA header with the student’s name, the instructor’s name, the abbreviated version of
the course name, and the date of submission. Page numbers must be present on each
page and the word count should be indicated at the end of the document.
PRINT YOUR DOCUMENTS
Carefully
Add this document to the small binder which serves as your portfolio. Be sure to place
your inspiration collage, plagiarism guide, a copy of your other essays (including
Discovery books) in the folder as well first. Organize essays and draft according to
Writing Project Assignment, from first to last. The next few slides will help with this step.
Question: How should I organize my essay materials for the English
Class portfolio?
Beginning with the first essay, insert a fresh printed copy of the essay, followed
immediately by the hand-marked paper and grade report or rubic (if you have these), and
then the discovery book or any other papers related to that assignment. (No quizzes!)

Question: What if I cannot locate an item? Will I lose points?
You will not lose points for lacking a document (yet). If you do not yet have feedback or
have not been able to locate a document, there is a simple, if temporary solution.
Create a placeholder. Use a blank sheet of paper, loose-leaf or lined to hold the place of
something that is missing. Write the name of the missing item. When you get the
document, simply place it in place of the placeholder.
