A preposition shows the position of a noun or pronoun to another noun.

Example: The barrel is in front of the slide.In front of is the preposition.

It shows the position of the subject (barrel) in relationship with the slide.

A prepositional phrase is a group of words that consists of a preposition, the object of the preposition, and any modifiers of

the subject.

Ex. The barrel is in front of the slide.The underlined phrase of the sentence is a prepositional

phrase.In front of is the preposition, and slide is the object of the

sentence. The is a modifier of slide.
