Teacher Strategies Pupils’ Activities

1 The teacher asks students to share

what they think is similar about the

words written on the white board.

(the teacher guides students to

discover the function of

prepositions)

Students share their ideas.

2 The teacher writes a short note on

the white board which contains the

definition for prepositions.

Through direct instruction the

teacher explains the concept of

prepositions.

Students read a note written on the

white board and then listen

attentively to an explanation given

by the teacher.

3 The teacher presents students with

sentences and asks them to identify

the prepositions.

Students read sentences aloud and

then identify the proposition.

sentence with the preposition

assigned.

Closure:

To conclude the lesson the teacher plays a song (the preposition dance) and students sing and

dance along with the music. The teacher then asks students questions which summarize the

lesson. Finally students copy a short note on the topic.

Evaluation:

To evaluate the effectiveness of the lesson students will be required to complete a worksheet

where they will identify the prepositions in sentences. They will also be required to use the

appropriate preposition to complete sentences.

Continuation:

As a form of continuation the teacher could play a preposition Pictionary game. The class could

be divided into two teams. One team sends a player to the whiteboard who try to get his/her

teammates to figure out the preposition that they have by drawing images on the whiteboard.

Both sides take turns for a set time period and the team with the most points wins the game.
