“Since Jesus Came into My Heart”

Colossians 3:16 begins with “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly” and ends with “as you sing psalms, hymns

and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.” Gratitude to God is something we need to express

regularly and sincerely. The first Sunday in July, we will be singing “Since Jesus Came into My Heart.” Think

about this hymn as you read the following.

Gratitude is a positive emotion. It is a way of reaching out to God and establishing a better relationship with Him.

It is a key to spiritual growth and development. I read a Wikipedia article on gratitude that points out that

“spirituality is capable of enhancing a person’s ability to be grateful and therefore, those who regularly attend

religious services or engage in religious activities are more likely to have a greater sense of gratitude in all areas of

life.” What a wonderful blessing we have in worshipping together.

Singing and listening to sacred music is an enhancer of Christian living when done in a spirit of gratitude,

thankfulness to God for our Savior Jesus Christ. Let’s sing with joy and exuberance to the Lord.

On June 8th, I used the following anagram on the word “SACRED” in my sermon. It has a lot to say about those

who seek to show gratitude to God.

Spirituality: They seek to know God and themselves at the deepest level of the soul.

Accountability: They hold themselves and others to the moral and spiritual high ground

in every area of life.

Compassion: They practice the love of God in word and deed.

Religious Leadership: They are models of spiritual truth and stand up for those truths.

Excellence: They do their best for God’s glory.

Diversity: They respect the differences of others and work together for the glory of God.

“What a wonderful change in my life has been wrought

Since Jesus came into my heart!

I have light in my soul for which long I have sought,

Since Jesus came into my heart!

God bless! Fred

LIBRARY LINES JULY 2014

We have a large selection of new books and series to chose from. We also have

a very nice selection of non-fiction books to chose from. The non-fiction

books are located in the back library as well as the new non-fiction books

located on the book cart in the children’s library. Whatever your spiritual

needs may be, we have the book for you.

The featured reading material this month is the Presbyterian Mission

Yearbook. The 2014 book is located on the bottom of the new book shelf.

Most of the mission minutes come from this book. We have more in the back

library. These books are not just for Missions, they are for everybody who is

interested in how the word of God is carried to others across our country and

world. Each day features a new location and a new way of looking at how to

minister to others. If you would like to broaden your spiritual horizons,

please feel free to read one of the Mission Yearbooks.

“The Mission Yearbook is my daily companion. The account of God’s work

through the PC(USA) and its affiliates are inspiring and nurture my own

creativity. And the daily lectionary readings at the bottom of the page guide

my Scripture reading.

We say we are a connectional church. The yearbook facilitates our

connectional life in Christ in the best and truest sense--with God, with one

another, and with the work of the church.”

George Goodrich, co-general presbyter, Yellowstone Presbytery

Thank you to all who so generously donate to our library.

“TILL WE SPEAK AGAIN”

Question: What one word would you use to describe God?

Millie: That’s easy, Scary!

I gotcha!! Ha, Ha… No, I would say “Loving”. God is love. Remember the bible

verse we all learned as kids; John 3:16; “For God so loved the world that he

gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him, shall not perish,

but have everlasting life.

God’s love is unconditional. He loves us no matter what, but that doesn’t

mean he can’t get upset with us or punish us. Just read the Old Testament. He

guides us like a parent, spanking us (so to speak) when we need it.

We can always depend on God’s love, not so with the love of our fellow man.

When the going gets tough, people being people, often desert us. They leave us

to fend for ourselves, like rats leaving a sinking ship. But not God!! He is

always with us, even though we might not realize it. He is holding us in the

palm of his hand. We need only listen for his still small voice.

Luv, Millie aka-Meg

Thought for the day: Remember God always leaves a candle burning in the

window to welcome us back home out of the darkness.
