Presbyterian Times February 2019 Recently I went to an event sponsored by our presbytery. It was a training seminar for all the people who sat on a committee of the presbytery. The topic was about leading change. As I was sitting in the session, I was struck about the reality of how much our lives change, and how difficult change is for many of us. We tend to like the things that are familiar and predictable. We like to know what to expect and when things will happen. However, the reality of life is that it is constantly changing. Our kids grow up every day. New grey hairs emerge every time we look into a mirror. The clothes we wore a year ago just don’t fit the way they used to. The stock market goes up, then it goes down, and back up again. We lose jobs, relationships end, and churches transition and even split. Fashion trends change, and the values and customs of our society change faster than a blink of an eye. I like what Christina Fox says on the Desiring God website, “When such changes enter our life, it’s overwhelming, confusing, even terrifying. We can go to bed at night to one reality and wake up to a completely different life. Change can make us feel lost and abandoned, like we’ve been tossed overboard in the midst of a storm. We’re left reeling, trying to grab ahold of anything we can find that’s strong and stable. We’re tempted to run from change, as though we could ever escape it.” Thanks be to God that in Scripture we are given a quality of God that offers us hope in the midst of changing circumstances, the steadfast love of God. Lamentations 3:22The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; Throughout the Old Testament, the “steadfast love of God” is a quality of God that the Israelites claimed and trusted for God’s faithfulness, protection, and presence. Can we lean upon the “steadfast love of God” as our world changes around us? This should give us reason to see God every morning and rest in His “steadfast love.” Pastor Eric 502-565-6591 [email protected]

February

2019

Recently I went to an event sponsored by our presbytery. It was a training seminar for all

the people who sat on a committee of the presbytery. The topic was about leading

change.

As I was sitting in the session, I was struck about the reality of how much our lives

change, and how difficult change is for many of us. We tend to like the things that are

familiar and predictable. We like to know what to expect and when things will happen.

However, the reality of life is that it is constantly changing.

Our kids grow up every day. New grey hairs emerge every time we look into a mirror. The

clothes we wore a year ago just don’t fit the way they used to. The stock market goes

up, then it goes down, and back up again. We lose jobs, relationships end, and

churches transition and even split. Fashion trends change, and the values and customs

of our society change faster than a blink of an eye.

I like what Christina Fox says on the Desiring God website, “When such changes enter

our life, it’s overwhelming, confusing, even terrifying. We can go to bed at night to one

reality and wake up to a completely different life. Change can make us feel lost and

abandoned, like we’ve been tossed overboard in the midst of a storm. We’re left reeling,

trying to grab ahold of anything we can find that’s strong and stable. We’re tempted to

run from change, as though we could ever escape it.”

Thanks be to God that in Scripture we are given a quality of God that offers us hope in

the midst of changing circumstances, the steadfast love of God.

Lamentations 3:22—The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, his mercies never

come to an end;

Throughout the Old Testament, the “steadfast love of God” is a quality of God that the

Israelites claimed and trusted for God’s faithfulness, protection, and presence.

Can we lean upon the “steadfast love of God” as our world changes around us? This

should give us reason to see God every morning and rest in His “steadfast love.”

MISSION COMMITTEE UPDATE:

Just a reminder that the First Sunday Benevo-

lence Fund continues to be split evenly between our Presbyterian Church Dental Fund and

Christian Community Outreach. 13 individuals were helped in 2018 through the Dental Pro-

gram, with $2704.00 spent to assist these peo-ple, and there was a good carryover of $371.00

to begin 2019 assistance.

One client was a 25 year old woman who called because of pain and embarrassment of a

chipped front tooth. She had just started a new job at Wendy’s and began crying when she

learned we could get her an appointment in just

a couple of days to fix her problem.

There is a list in the Fellowship Hall regarding the requested monthly Christian Community

Outreach collection items. They can be placed on the designated table in the church narthex

and will be delivered monthly to CCO. Sureway stamps for CCO can be placed in the container

near the mailboxes in the Fellowship Hall. Monetary donations from the First Sunday col-

lections are delivered to CCO on a quarterly ba-

sis.

In November, 2018, a total of 25 Samaritan’s

Purse Christmas Child boxes were donated and

shipped.

We continue to supply the South Heights Family Resource Center a total of 10 food bags

for the weekend Backpack program. Your gen-erous donations to the Backpack funds are util-

ized to make this possible, and are greatly ap-

preciated.

Grace Marriage is a proactive, well-ness coaching pro-gram for all mar-riages. Six hours are invested every 90 days to study Scripture and see the big picture of marriage. Each quarter participants

(Make ups available) Cost for the program is $200 per cou-ple; and $25.00 per couple each ses-sion to cover food expenses. Child care is provided upon request. You will be bless for the investment. The Youth Group Christmas was a lot of Fun! On Friday, Dec 14 we got together for a taco bar dinner, then we made festive chocolate covered pretzel sticks and wrapped them up to give as gifts. We finished the evening with Christmas Charades and got to experience everyone's creative acting abilities. It was so much fun being together to celebrate Jesus’ birthday!

The annual Nativity Celebration, fea-turing our youth and families, was held on Sunday, December 16. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make this a perfect celebration of the Season!
